Can Edmonton Recover From Oil Spill in Game 4 Drilling?

One of the better series of the first round swings back to Edmonton on Thursday night after a Game 4 that saw Cam Talbot – and a few others – leak a lot of oil. With 77 games now under his belt this campaign, the Oilers’ No. 1 netminder was probably thankful for the rest he got after allowing five goals to a suddenly motivated Sharks offense.

SHARK BITES
  • The Sharks are 1-7 SU in their last 8 games as underdog.
  • The Oilers are 8-1 SU in their last 9 games as favorite.
  • The visiting team is 10-2 on the puckline in the last 12 games in this matchup.

The seven goals the Sharks scored on Tuesday were more than they had in the previous four games combined. Pulling the trigger has been a problem for the Sharks forwards all year long but with a shellacking of the Oilers in Game 4, it looks like they’ve cured what was ailing them.

With the floodgates now cracked, I expect this series to bust wide open from the tight forechecking contest it was in the first three. Edmonton’s offense has yet to really explode and with revenge – and a 3-2 lead – on their minds, I think the Connor McDavid-led Oilers have their coming-out party tonight.

Edmonton opened as the -130 favorite and they’ll likely close at something right around that. The Oilers are 13-2-2 in their last 17 games against Pacific Division opponents at a Rogers Place that I anticipate will be absolutely bumping as the kids go for their first playoff series win since 2006.
