Stanley Cup Final Betting Odds Preview
Two major American markets will compete for the Stanley Cup this spring as the New York Rangers take on the Los Angeles Kings in a series that gets underway on Wednesday night at the Staples Center.
Los Angeles punched its ticket to the Stanley Cup final in dramatic fashion on Sunday night, topping the Chicago Blackhawks by a score of 5-4 in overtime in Game 7 of the Western Conference final as road underdogs on the NHL playoff betting lines at the sportsbooks.
That was the third straight seven-game victory in these playoffs for the Kings, who had to mount big comebacks against the San Jose Sharks in the first round and the Anaheim Ducks in the second round before facing Chicago.
The Rangers, meanwhile, won in seven games against both the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round and the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round before taking care of the Montreal Canadiens in six games in the Eastern Conference final.
Los Angeles and New York met twice during the regular season, with the Rangers winning 3-1 as road underdogs on the NHL odds at the sportsbooks on October 7 and the Kings winning 1-0 as road underdogs in the rematch on November 17. Both of those games turned out to be UNDER results for totals bettors.
The Kings and Rangers overall have split their last 10 meetings 5-5, but those games date all the way back to 2003. The OVER/UNDER went 3-5-2 for totals bettors in those matchups.
The Kings will have home-ice advantage in the Stanley Cup final, and the series gets underway on Wednesday night at the Staples Center. Game 2 then hits the ice on Saturday, with the series shifting to Madison Square Garden next week. The early odds at 5Dimes had the Kings at -165 for the series with the Rangers at +145.
