Leafs Look to End Current Skid Against A Ducks Team They've Owned

Toronto lost yet another shootout last night, bringing the Maple Leafs’ record in the game-deciding skill competition to a dismal 1-8 in nine attempts. For those out there looking for analysis – that’s not very good. They’ll look to get over it and make a quick turnaround this evening when they take on the Anaheim Ducks looking to stop their four-game skid.

SHARK BITES
  • The Maple Leafs are 8-2 SU in their last 10 games against the Ducks.
  • The Ducks are 10-2 SU in their last 12 games after a loss.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 9 of the Ducks' last 12 home games and in all of the Leafs' last 4 games.

During their losing streak, the Leafs have scored just six goals so they’ll be happy to see this West Coast swing come to an end. Toronto typically has a tough time scoring in California but if you look back to the Buds’ road matchup with the Ducks last year, you’ll see that they actually shut out the Quackers on their home ice, scoring four goals – three against John Gibson and one against the guy who came over in a trade later that summer.

This will be Frederik Andersen’s first return to the Honda Center since his departure from Anaheim but it’s a building he feels comfortable in as he posted a .931 save percentage in his 15 home starts last season. The Leafs, who are coming off the first half of a back-to-back, could rest the Dane in favor of Curtis McElhinney after he stopped 33 of 35 Kings’ shots last night but at the time of this writing, Freddy was first in the Leafs’ depth chart.

The Ducks have been a hard team to read, not posting a consecutive win or loss in their last eight games, but it’s clear they play better at home. They’re 19-7-3 at the Honda Center this season and they've also been keeping the puck out of the net on home ice with a 9-12-8 OVER/UNDER record at the Duck Pond this year.
