Senators Go for Season Sweep of Leafs

While this season certainly hasn’t been a banner one for Canadian NHL teams, the Ottawa Senators could provide their fans a bit of a silver lining if they defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs at Canadian Tire Center Saturday evening.

Shark Bites
  • OVER is 4-0 in the previous four meetings between these two in Ottawa.
  • The home team is 5-2 SU in the previous seven meetings.
  • UNDER is 5-1 in Ottawa’s previous six games versus teams from the Atlantic Division.

At online shop Sportsbook, the Sens are -180 while the Maple Leafs are +150 in moneyline markets. As far as the total is concerned, OVER 5.5 goals is priced at -110 while UNDER 5.5 goals is -120.

The Sens can complete the season sweep of the hated Maple Leafs after winning the first three meetings this season. Ottawa has won 5-4, 6-1 and, most recently, 3-2 last Saturday night.

The Senators are tied with the Montreal Canadiens with 70 points on the season – the most of any of the Canadian franchises. Sadly, barring a miracle, none of them look like they are in line to make the postseason.

The Maple Leafs are in full tank mode and succeeding at it better than they have anything else in recent memory. The Buds head into Saturday’s meeting with an NHL-low 55 points and are on track to win the “Auston Matthews Sweepstakes”.

These two are no strangers to high-scoring games. Six of the previous eight meetings between the two have resulted in OVERS thanks to an average of 7.0 combined goals scored per game over that stretch.

These two struggling teams might not have much to play for Saturday night in the most recent edition of The Battle of Ontario, but a season sweep of their hated rivals would be a decent feather in the Senators’ otherwise humdrum cap.
