USA, Canada meet for Olympic gold
Team Canada knocked off Team USA in the Gold Medal Game when the Winter Olympics were held in Salt Lake City back in 2002.
On Sunday afternoon in Vancouver the Americans will be looking to return the favor.
The United States blasted Finland 6-1 in the tournament’s semifinal round on Friday to earn themselves a shot at the gold. The Americans blitzed the Finns and goalie Miikka Kiprusoff in that contest, scoring all six goals in the first period.
Patrick Kane had a pair of goals for the United States in Friday’s semifinal win, while Paul Stastny, Zach Parise, Ryan Malone, and Erik Johnson each scored once. Brian Rafalski had a pair of assists.
And USA goalie Ryan Miller continued to stone the opposition, stopping all 18 Finnish shots he faced. Backup netminder Tim Thomas finished the game for the Americans, allowing one goal on seven shots.
Despite that performance, though, the Americans can still be found as +175 underdogs on the moneyline at Bovada, with the Canadians considered the -210 favorites. The total for the game sits at 5.5 goals.
Team Canada staked themselves to a 3-0 lead on Slovakia in their semifinal matchup later on Friday, then held off a third-period rally for a 3-2 victory.
Patrick Marleau, Brenden Morrow, and Ryan Getzlaf had the Canadian goals against Slovakia, while Roberto Luongo made 19 saves on 21 Slovakian shots.
