Leafs Open as Home Dogs Against Capitals Despite Their Heater

Toronto escaped Buffalo with two points yesterday and managed to avoid any major injuries in a scrappy affair. The Leafs blew the doors off the Sabres with three goals in 43 seconds in the first period and will look for that momentum to continue when they host the East-leading Capitals as the +120 home underdogs.

SHARK BITES
  • The Capitals are 6-1 SU in their last 7 games against the Maple Leafs.
  • The Maple Leafs are 2-0 SU in their last 2 home games on the 2nd half of a back-to-back.
  • The total has gone OVER in 7 of the Capitals' last 8 games on the road.

The Leafs have nearly booked their ticket to the postseason for the first time since 2013 and with the remainder of their regular-season games being played at the Air Canada Centre, that idea is becoming more and more of a reality. Although they’ve struggled against the Capitals in recent years, the Buds have split the season series and should be good upset candidates this evening.

Winning seven of their last eight games, both teams come into this one on scorchers. Washington, however, suffered a 6-3 loss at the hands of the lowly ’Yotes on the last day of March as -320 favorites and although that doesn’t mean they’ll lose tonight, it’s a perfect example of why it’s a good idea to take the value when a home team is a big dog.

Before laying a bet tonight, though, make sure you know who’s starting in net for both teams. Curtis McElhinney has been good in relief for Freddy Andersen but Washington backup Philipp Grubauer really struggled in March.
