Wednesday NHL Playoff Betting

The Washington Capitals can put the pressure on the Montreal Canadiens tonight when they face off in Game 4 of their series with a 2-1 lead.

The first two games of this series were close contests that were decided by a single goal. Game 3 sure wasn’t. On Monday night the Capitals crushed the Canadiens 5-1 to take a 2-1 series lead.

Alexander Ovechkin netted his second playoff goal in the win, while Eric Fehr and Brooks Laich each had a goal and an assist. Washington made a change in nets, replacing Jose Theodore with Semyon Varlamov and it proved to be the right move after Varlamov stopped 26-of-27 shots.

While the Capitals goal tending situation settled in Game 3 the Canadiens was turned upside down. Jaroslav Halak had his worst game of the series and was pulled after giving up three goals on 13 shots. Carey Price made his first appearance in the series and stopped 21-of-23 shots, but the damage was already done.

Halak’s dreadful performance in Game 3 may cause Habs coach Jacques Martin to make a change tonight. There are reports circulating that Price will get the start over Halak in Game 4. Martin has not confirmed the switch, but look for possible confirmation leading up to game time.

No matter if Price or Halak gets the start between the pipes tonight the Capitals will still be big road favorites. Washington is currently listed at -190, while the Canadiens are a +165 underdog at Bovada. After six goals in Game 3 and 11 in Game 2 the total was set high at 6.

Also on the ice tonight Buffalo takes a 2-1 series lead into Game 4 against Boston, while the Los Angeles is up 2-1 heading into Game 4 versus Vancouver.

Boston took a 2-1 series lead on Monday night with a close 2-1 victory. Tuukka Rask led the Bruins to the win with a 32-save performance, while Patrice Bergeron netted the game-winner. Sabres’ leading goal scorer Thomas Vanek remains doubtful for tonight game due to a lower body injury that sidelined him Monday night. Boston is a -130 favorite tonight at Bovada, while the total was set low at 5.

The Kings are in the drivers seat against the Canucks after winning Game 3 5-3 on Monday night. Michal Handzus has two goals and an assist for L.A., while Dre Doughty had a huge game with a goal and three assists. The Kings chased Vancouver goalies Roberto Luongo after scoring four goals on 16 shots.

The Canucks need him to rebound quickly tonight or they’re in big trouble. Despite the Kings Game 3 win and Luongo’s struggles the Canucks are a -120 favorite in tonight’s game at Bovada.
