Wings vs. Bruins on NHL lines
Division leaders Boston and Detroit will meet in a rare home-and-home set on the weekend with the Bruins as -145 home favorites against the +125 underdog Red Wings in NHL betting action on Friday night.
Boston has the best goals-against average at 2.22, but until lately the team had struggled to find its groove offensively. The Bruins have found the back of the net 14 times in their last three games, and that should bode well for those considering an OVER wager on the posted OVER/UNDER total of 5.5 at betED.
Detroit, meanwhile, is a team that is third in the league in goals scored, but has been shut out twice in the past week – and fell 4-1 to Nashville last time out. If the Red Wings are to pull off the upset as road underdogs they will need snipers Henrik Zetterberg and Johan Franzen, who have combined for a single point in the past four games, to get going once again.
Tim Thomas leads the league with a 1.91 GAA and gives Boston that security in net, while Detroit could be hard-pressed to decide whether Jimmy Howard or Joey MacDonald gets the start; Howard allowed four goals on 16 shots against the Predators. The Bruins could opt for Tuukka Rask in the first game.
Detroit won the only matchup 2-0 last season and has the firepower to do it again, but the Bruins will draw the most attention on the NHL betting lines as home favorites.
On Saturday the road underdog Toronto Maple Leafs look to continue their recent hot streak against Original Six rivals Montreal at the Bell Centre.
The Maple Leafs had won five of their last six games up until Thursday’s tilt with New Jersey - and they have taken four of the last five head-to-head against the Canadiens. They could make for a good road underdog wager on the NHL betting lines.
Montreal had lost back-to-back games heading into action on Thursday night against the Islanders. The Maple Leafs have controlled the most recent chapter between these teams, but Montreal’s goaltending and stingy penalty-killing will certainly be an advantage for them at home.
While the Maple Leafs have the more recent victories, it’s the Canadiens who are a solid 18-11 when listed as favorites. The NHL betting lines will favor Montreal at home, but the Leafs' history will get them serious consideration by many bettors.
Montreal has one of the stingiest defenses in the NHL and UNDER bettors have cashed out in the majority of their games this season - and head-to-head the UNDER wager has also been rewarded in three straight contests.
