This is the big match up in the Group of Death and according to FIFA rankings Brazil is the top-ranked team in the world and Portugal ranks third.

Brazil already has booked their ticket to the knockout phase and it is likely Portugal has as well, as even if they lose the Ivory Coast have to crush North Korea since Portugal scored seven goals against the North Koreans and they have a big goal differential lead over the African nation.

These teams will not let up even though both should progress to the round of 16, as it is likely the winner will face Chile and the loser will face Spain if Spain beats Chile in a Friday match where they are heavily favored. You can check out a preview of that match here.

In their last matches Brazil looked solid in a 3-1 win over the Ivory Coast on Sunday and Portugal embarrassed North Korea beating them 7-0 on Monday.

Brazil will be playing without MF Kaka, who was sent off in the Ivory Coast match with a red card after receiving his second yellow card, which was a very questionable call.

Brazil controlled most of their match against the Ivory Coast scoring three goals before the Ivory Coast scored a late one. They played great defense and their passing was solid and if they play that way against Portugal they will be tough to beat.

Portugal only took a 1-0 lead at the half against North Korea before pouring it on with six goals in the second half. Their counter-attack was stellar and they got more confident with every goal they scored. Even though they scored seven goals their strength is still their defense anchored by Bruno Alves and Ricardo Carvalho. These guys will have to play well especially marking the Brazilian striker duo of Luis Fabiano and Robinho. Portugal has yet to concede a goal in World Cup play.

Cristiano Ronaldo ended his two-year international goal drought in the match against North Korea and he will have to pressure the Brazilian defense in this match.

Both teams looked great in their last matches, but I think Brazil has too much talent on both sides of the field even playing without Kaka. Look for Brazil to score on a counter-attack, as they will win a low scoring match and win the Group of Death.
