The Giants head into Fenway tonight to open up an interleague series with the Boston Red Sox. San Fran will let Jake Peavy (5-7, 5.09) handle the pitching duties as they try to break the BoSox unbeaten record with Rick Porcello (11-2, 3.66 ERA) on the mound.
The Giants are 3-8 in their last 11 games vs the Red Sox.
The Red Sox are 9-3 in their last 12 interleague games.
The Giants are 6-1 in their last 7 games as the underdog.
Porcello’s record this year has definitely been helped by the run support he’s received from the number one offense in baseball, but he is also having the best statistical year of his career. At Fenway this season, Porcello is 8-0 with a 3.32 ERA and his only start against the Giants this campaign he picked up a no-decision after a three-run six-inning quality start.
Jake Peavy, however, is trending in the opposite direction. He is having the worst statistical season of his career and has been absolutely brutal on the road. Away from AT&T Park, the veteran righty has a 6.64 ERA and a 1-5 record.
The Red Sox are a pretty heavy favorite tonight and it betting on Peavy is a tough sell. A bet to look at is the OVER as interleague play games have produced an OVER/UNDER record of 105-66-9 so far this year.
