Brazil With Chance to Avenge 2014 World Cup Defeat

The two meet Friday evening in what looks on paper, to be the best contest we’ve seen at these Olympics.

UNDER Hot When Mariners Hit Los Angeles

The Seattle Mariners are inching closer to a postseason spot, and a strong finish to their seven-game road trip would go a long way to boosting those chances. Seattle concludes its four-game series with the lowly Los Angeles Angels Thursday.

Shark Bites
  • The Angels are 1-12 SU and 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games.
  • The Mariners are 8-2 SU in their last 10 games against teams with losing records.
  • The Mariners are 5-1 SU in their last six games against the Angels.

Hisashi Iwakuma and Matt Shoemaker are the probable starters. Iwakuma (14-7, 3.84 ERA) has been fantastic this month, winning all three of his starts to improve to 8-1 since losing at Detroit on June 22. Iwakuma is 8-3 with a 2.86 ERA in 16 career games against the Angels in his career.

Shoemaker (6-13, 4.22) suffered his second straight loss and fourth in five starts last Saturday, when he gave up five runs and 12 hits in six innings at Cleveland. Shoemaker is 3-4 with a 3.91 ERA in 10 career outings against the M’s.

The UNDER is trending when the Mariners travel to the Golden State. In the Mariners’ last 13 road games against the Halos, the UNDER is 10-3.

Fantastic Pitcher's Duel at AT&T Park Today

AT&T Park is the setting for a fantastic pitcher’s duel on Thursday, as Jacob deGrom and the New York Mets take on Madison Bumgarner and the San Francisco Giants.

Shark Bites
  • The Mets are 3-1 SU in their last four games against the Giants.
  • The total has gone UNDER in six of the Mets' last seven games on the road with Jacob deGrom as the starting pitcher.
  • The total has gone OVER in the Mets' last three games against the Giants.

Bumgarner (11-7, 2.11 ERA) picked up his lone victory since the All-Star break in his last outing and, but he was 0-3 in his first five starts after the break. The veteran has been superb against the Mets, going 4-0 with a 1.03 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in five career starts.

DeGrom dominated the Giants in his lone career outing in the Bay Area, pitching eight innings of two-hit shutout ball on July 8, 2015. He enters this contest on the heels of a fantastic 0.65 ERA over his past four starts but has only one victory to show for it due to the Mets’ inconsistent offense.

Bouncing back away from home has been no problem for the Mets lately. New York is 8-1 in its last nine games on the road after suffering a road loss.

Cincinnati Red-Hot When Straily Takes The Mound

The Cincinnati Reds are not exactly a team you think of when you mention the word ‘dangerous,’ but Dan Straily has been just that. The righty has a 2.13 ERA while allowing opponents to hit just .209 in his six starts since the All-Star break – which have all been wins for the Reds. Cincy and Straily close out their series with the Miami Marlins Thursday.

  • Christian Yelich went 2-for-2 with a solo home run in his only plate appearances against Dan Straily.
  • The OVER is 5-1 in the Reds’ past six games.
  • The Marlins are 8-3 in their past 11 road games coming off a road loss.

Jose Fernandez will take the bump with plenty of rest, as the Marlins’ ace skipped his last start to help limit his workload. Fernandez went seven innings without allowing a single earned run in his first outing against the Reds this season.

The Marlins have traditionally had the Reds’ number, as Miami has won eight of the past 10 meetings between the two teams. However, the Reds have won the past two games between the clubs while outscoring the Marlins 9-5.

UNDERS Commonplace when ‘Stros, O’s Meet

Offense has been hard to come by when the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles have clashed. The two teams have averaged a combined 5.4 runs per game in their past five meetings – all of which went UNDER. The Astros and Orioles kick off a four-game set in Baltimore Thursday.

  • Jose Altuve went 1-for-13 in the Astros’ past series with the Orioles.
  • The UNDER is 22-8 in the Orioles’ past 30 games.
  • The Astros are 2-9 SU and against the runline in their past 11 games against teams with winning records.

The Orioles are happy to see that Kevin Gausman’s spot in the rotation has him pitching at Camden Yards. Gausman has a 2.39 ERA at home this season, compared to a wretched 5.32 ERA on the road.

Joe Musgrove has had an excellent start to his MLB career, as the righty has a 1.47 ERA with a 0.8 WAR through his first three appearances – two starts. The rookie has started his career by posting a stellar 21/2 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Cubs are Massive Favorites Today as They Host Brewers

Heading into their matchup with the division-leading Cubs, the Brewers have lost three games in a row while their opponents, who sit 24 games ahead of Milwaukee in the standings, have won their last three.

The Brewers are 6-2 in their last 8 games after consecutive losses.
The Cubs are 11-2 in their last 13 games at home.
The Brewers are 4-20 in their last 24 games against the Cubs.

Zach Davies will handle the starting duties for the Brewers this afternoon as his team is charged with the task of facing Jake Arrieta. Davies has been decent in his first full year in the league posting a 9-5 record with a 3.80 era. He has owned the Cubs the first couple times he has seen them, limiting their current lineup to a .132 batting average.

Arrieta has thrust himself up the NL Cy Young ladder with three strong starts in a row and now owns a 14-5 record to go along with his 2.55 ERA. In his lone start against the Brew Crew this season, the reigning Cy Young winner allowed just three hits and one run in a 7-2 Cubs win.

The Cubs are huge favorites tonight so there is definitely some value in the Brewers tonight as they’ve been strong after consecutive losses.
