Faves Cruising When Cards, D-Backs Meet

If there has been one constant for bettors when the St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks square off, it’s that you should back the favorites. The favored team is 14-3 in the past 17 meetings between the Cards and D-Backs, which includes a 2-1 record during their current series.

The Cardinals will send Michael Wacha to the mound as the youngster looks to continue his string of solid performances. The right-hander has given up just three earned runs in his past three outings, but did struggle with control in his last game with four walks and no strikeouts.

Rubby De La Rosa will make his seventh appearance of the season when he starts Thursday. De La Rosa has had to pitch out of the bullpen three times already this season with the D-Backs starters struggling to go deep into games. De La Rosa has a career 4.91 ERA in two starts against the Cardinals.

CFL Odds: 2016 Grey Cup Futures Odds

CFL players have already hit the fields for mini-camps and the annual draft is quickly approaching. After spending much of the offseason listed as the second overall prospect in the draft, the scouting bureau has tabbed Manitoba defensive lineman David Onyemata as the best player entering the CFL this season. Onyemata possesses elite athleticism for a 300 pounder and could immediately make an impact for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who pick first in the draft.

Brewers In a Terrible Spot Against Cubs

The Milwaukee Brewers will have many difficult hills to climb if they want to beat the Chicago Cubs Thursday. First, the Brewers have lost 13 of the past 14 meetings with the Cubbies, including the past four. Second, they will be facing arguably the best pitcher on the planet in Jake Arrieta.

Arrieta will be looking for electric encore after the rightie threw his second career no-hitter in his last outing. In Arrieta’s past 24 regular season starts he is 20-1 with a 0.86 ERA while leading to Cubs to a 22-2 record. The early Cy Young favorite has also not allowed a run in his past 18 innings against the Brewers.

The Brew Crew will send struggling Taylor Jungmann to try and slow down the Cubs big hitters. Jungmann has a huge 8.47 ERA through his first four starts with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 11/10.

Do Raiders Have a Future in Las Vegas?

Mark Davis Raiders

With Las Vegas still waiting to find out if it will be awarded an expansion team in the NHL within the next few months, an NFL franchise is also becoming a bigger possibility for Sin City due to the current stadium status of the Oakland Raiders. A move to their former home of Los Angeles fell through earlier this year, with the St. Louis Rams going there instead. Now Vegas has emerged as the favorite to land the Raiders if financing is approved for a $1.3 billion domed stadium near the Strip by a government committee.

Home Court Trend Working in Celtics Favor

Jeff Teague Jae Crowder

The Boston-Atlanta first-round series has been one of the most exciting matchups in the NBA postseason so far, but the Celtics’ playoff dreams are on the line ahead of Thursday night’s Game 6 in Beantown. Home court has been massive in this series, as no road team has won yet through five games.

Shark Bites
  • The Hawks are 1-3 SU and ATS in their last four games with one day off between games.
  • The Celtics are 2-11 SU and 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games as underdogs.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 12 of the Celtics' last 15 games with one day off between games.

Just how long has it been since Atlanta ousted Boston in the playoffs? It hasn’t happened in 58 years. A date with the Cleveland Cavaliers awaits the victor.

The Hawks halted a brief two-game run by the C’s in Game 5 by walloping them 110-83 in Georgia. The Hawks scored 19 points in the first 18 minutes but lit up the Celtics for 70 in the next 18 minutes en route to the triumph.

The UNDER, which opened at 197, has gone 4-1 in the series so far. The UNDER is 5-2 in Atlanta’s last seven with a closing total of 197 or less.

Celtics bettors would be wise to keep an eye on Isaiah Thomas. Thomas re-aggravated a sprained left ankle in Tuesday’s fourth quarter, but insists he’ll play “no matter what.” He will likely be far from 100 percent, however, we’ve seen him overcome adversity and step up to the plate in a big way before.

Pens are an Absolute Boss on the Road

Crosby Ovechkin

The highly anticipated Round 2 series between the Capitals and Penguins gets underway tonight at the Verizon Center in D.C. The Penguins will look to continue a trend that’s seen them absolutely dominate on the road, as they’re now 10-1 in their last 11 road games, which includes two wins in New York in their first round series against the Rangers.

This matchup has seen the favored team go 14-6 over the past 20 games. As -134 favorites tonight, the Capitals have put together a 22-8 record in their last 30 games as home favorites, but a smaller sample size has seen them go just 5-5 in that spot over their last 10 games, which included a 4-3 loss to the Penguins on April 7.

The Pens came out on top in the five games the teams played against each other during the regular season, winning three games. The last eight times the teams have met in Washington has seen Pittsburgh win six times.

The spotlight in this series will shine brightly on superstars Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. In five games against the Pens this season, Ovechkin was held off the scoresheet while Crosby registered four points. NFL Draft: Who Will Be First Overall Pick?

The Los Angeles Rams pushed all their chips into the pot and made a huge trade to obtain the top overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Rams sent two firsts, two seconds and two third round picks to the Tennessee Titans to go from No.15 to No.1 in the draft to select their potential franchise quarterback.

The only question remaining is which quarterback will be roaming the sidelines for the Rams next season. There is no doubt the decision is between Jared Goff of Cal and Carson Wentz of North Dakota State.
