USA Goes for Third Versus Colombia Saturday

Clint Dempsey USA Copa America

The United States may have been throttled by Argentina in their semifinal matchup, but they can still get something out of the Copa American Centenario when they battle Colombia for third place Saturday night in Arizona.

Copa América Centenario Odds

Argentina and Chile both cruised through their elimination games at the Copa America and will now play in a rematch of last year’s final where the Chileans were crowned champions after beating their Argentine rivals 4-1 in penalties.

Online shop [custom:Bodog-link] has given Chile a +200 line to repeat as Copa champions and the football juggernauts of Argentina will be -275 to lift the trophy for the first time since 1993.

Keuchel Likely to Fall Victim to Royals at Kauffman

Dallas Keuchel (3-9, 5.32 ERA) and the Astros will be offered up to the slaughtering ground that is Kauffman stadium tonight in a matchup between two AL teams who sit second in their divisions. The royals will send the fiery Edinson Volquez (7-6, 4.12 ERA) to the mound in search of yet another home win.

The Royals are 12-1 in their last 13 games at home.
The total has gone UNDER in 12 of the Astros’ last 14 games.
The Astros are 3-9 in their last 12 games as moneyline favorites of -120 or less.

Keuchel has yet to find his form from last season that saw him top AL Cy Young voting last year and has not registered a win since May 28. In his nine road starts this year, the Houston lefty is 2-6 and has posted an ERA close to six.

Volquez on the other hand, has been brilliant at home. He is 5-2 in nine starts with an ERA of 2.61. The Royals have been borderline unbeatable at Kauffman this year and with a 25-8 record they have by far been the best team in the Majors when playing at home.

With that record at home, the plus money sportsbooks are laying to Kansas City on the moneyline right now is worth taking advantage of.

Scherzer Could Cause Some Empty Swings From Brewers

Nats’ co-ace Max Scherzer (8-4, 3.29 ERA) will take the mound tonight as his NL East-leading team heads to Brew Town to open up a series with Milwaukee and Zach Davies (5-3, 3.62 ERA).

The Nationals are 4-1 in their last 5 games against the Brewers.
The Brewers are 5-2 in their 7 games at home.
The Nationals are 8-1 OU in their last 9 games as road favorites.

Davies has actually been really good this year despite his age and the skill of the team he pitches for. In eight home starts this year, the young righty is 4-2 with a 2.88 ERA and is limiting hitters to a .210 batting average. If he wants the win tonight, the offensively challenged Brewers offense will have to over achieve against one of the most talented pitchers in the Majors.

Scherzer wasn’t great to start the season but has been locked in lately. He is 3-0 in his last four starts and allowed a total of four runs in 28 total innings in those games. In his last start against the Brew Crew, Scherzer tossed a complete game one-hitter with 16 strikeouts and carried a perfect game into the seventh inning. Look for another strong performance from the Washington righty.

The Over is Hot When Red Sox Are Favored

The Red Sox hit the road this weekend a day after their extra-innings win over the ChiSox to take on the hottest team in Major League Baseball, the Texas Rangers. The Sox will send their Ace David Price (8-4, 4.24 ERA) to the mound to face Nick Martinez (1-1, 5.14 ERA) who is making just his second start of the year for the Rangers.

The favored team is 14-6 in its last 20 games in this matchup.
The Rangers are 3-7 in their last 10 games with Martinez as their starting pitcher.
The total has gone OVER in 8 of the Red Sox’ last 11 games as a favorite of -180 or more.

Since his rather rocky start, David Price has honed in his stuff and is looking like the number one guy the Red Sox paid him to be. The lefty has lowered his ERA every month with his new club and has posted a shiny 2.32 ERA through his four June starts. Price will have to be sharp tonight as he faces a Rangers lineup that has been crushing everyone lately.

The Rangers (47-26) now own the second best winning percentage in the majors, just behind the Chicago Cubs (47-24) after many of Texas’ off season acquisitions and prospect call ups have pained out.

That being said, there’s plenty working against the red-hot bats from Arlington in this one as they will send Nick Martinez to the mound in a pitching matchup the recent Triple-A call up is heavily outweighed in star-power. In his only MLB start this year, Martinez was roughed up by the Cardinals for three runs and was pulled early in the fifth inning.

Dodgers vs Pirates Matchup Has Been Dominated By Favorites

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates kick off a three-game set at PNC Park on Friday and if there is one constant when these two teams clash, it’s that the books are usually right. The favorite has gone 21-8 in the past 29 games between the Pirates and Dodgers.

  • The Pirates are 19-8 in their past 27 home games following consecutive home losses.
  • The Dodgers have won six-straight while allowing just 2.5 rpg.
  • Corey Seager is 12-for-37 during his current seven-game hitting streak.

Jameson Taillon will make his fourth career start for the Pirates when he takes the mound Friday. Taillon has been solid through his first three starts with a 3.50 ERA and a 13/4 K/BB ratio, but is coming off an outing in which he lasted just four innings while surrendering eight hits and four runs.

Nick Tepesch will be getting his first start in the majors since Sept. 26, 2014 after he was signed this offseason to a minor league contract. Tepesch has appeared to be fine after missing the entirety of last season with an elbow injury, as the righty has gone 7-2 with a 3.66 ERA in Triple-A.

Tips For Betting The CFL

I remember walking into the Wynn sportsbook’s back room one summer afternoon and there was this super upbeat oddsmaker keenly looking in on a Hamilton Tiger-Cats game on the screen in front of him.

I can’t remember exactly but I think they were playing the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

I made a comment about him needing to adjust the rabbit ears or something and he shot around in his swivel chair. Two seconds later he started spewing Oskee-Wee-Wee and it took about a half a minute before I realized I was way out of my league as a semi-dedicated follower of the CFL.
