Rangers bolster Stanley Cup odds

Watch for the New York Rangers' Stanley Cup odds to get a boost in the weeks ahead as the market adjusts to their signing of the most coveted free agent of the summer.

The Rangers inked Brad Richards to a nine-year, $60 million contract over the weekend, giving them the top-line center they've been coveting for the past couple of seasons. Richards will now be tasked with putting some life into New York's offense, and maximizing the production of talented but underperforming winger Marian Gaborik.

Ricky Romero will look to pay off for supporters on Friday when he takes to the mound for the Blue Jays against the Phillies in a Canada Day matchup.

Romero (7-7, 2.74 ERA) will be up against Philadelphia's Kyle Kendrick (4-4, 3.23 ERA) in the opener of this interleague series on Friday afternoon. Toronto is 5-5 in Romero's last 10 starts.

Division leaders meet up tonight when the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees clash at Yankee Stadium.

Shaun Marcum (7-2, 2.95) goes to the mound for Milwaukee tonight, while A.J. Burnett (7-6, 4.15) gets the ball for New York. Marcum lasted three innings and allowed two runs on two hits before leaving with an injury versus Tampa Bay. Burnett was tagged with the loss last time out after allowing four runs on seven hits in 6 1-3 innings.

Could bettors be looking at a World Series preview tonight when the Boston Red sox and Philadelphia Phillies clash in the opener of a three-game set?
