Panthers, Canadiens on NHL lines

Many didn’t expect the Montreal Canadiens (1-4-2) to be struggling this bad early in the season. They hope a visit from the Florida Panthers (4-3-0), whom the Canadiens have won three straight against, gives them a boost in the win column in NHL betting action on Monday night.

Montreal will be home favorites at 5Dimes in this contest, but the Canadiens have failed to win in three games where they have been the oddsmakers' choice. Florida is 2-3 as an underdog this season, and they did split a pair of games in Montreal last season.

Baseball Betting: Cards at Rangers

The St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers meet again on the World Series betting board on Sunday in Game 4 of the set in Arlington.

Edwin Jackson gets the ball for the Cardinals on Sunday, while the Rangers turn to Derek Holland. In Game 3 on Saturday night St. Louis picked up a victory to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Chargers open as chalk at Jets

When the Jets host the Chargers on Sunday, the Week 7 NFL odds are a contrast in one team coming off a bye facing a team heading into its bye.

It always adds some impetus and handicapping challenges to figure motivation, coaching skills, and other factors. Of note, the OVER is 8-1 in the past nine seasons in pre-bye week games for the Jets, who also happen to be 5-1 ATS in the past 6 seasons in games before a bye.

Packers vs Vikings Line Preview

If the Packers are going to lose in 2011, this is probably not the spot it will happen.

They lead the league in scoring, are 6-2 ATS in the past eight trips to Minnesota, and seem unbeatable. Hence the fat 9.5-point opening point spread, a huge number on the road against a divisional rival.

Green Bay wants to hit the bye week at 7-0 and the OVER has been a consistent bet on them in this situation (6-2 in the past eight seasons before a bye week). Minnesota meanwhile is just 1-12 SU in its past 13 games as an underdog.

Bradford out for Rams vs Dallas

The Rams haven't won and they haven't covered a spread in 2011, mimicking the ineptitude of Miami so far this season.

Now they head for Dallas in a game that could end up with the biggest point spread of the week. And without QB Sam Bradford, who was declared out Friday for the Rams.

After opening at -10 for Dallas, bettors quickly pounced and drove the number all the way to -14.5 at some online sportsbooks tracked by

Saints huge chalk vs Colts

In the second Super Bowl rematch, the Saints host the Colts in a matchup of Super Bowl XLIV teams, but clearly this is not a championship-calibre team in Indy in 2011.

New Orleans opened as 14-point chalk against the winless Colts and this number could climb much higher during the week. Of note, the past four meetings have been high-scoring affairs (at least 48 PPG in each).

NFL Prop Bets: New QBs take the field

Out with the old and in with the new seems to be the trend around the NFL this week as Denver, Minnesota, and Washington all hand over the reins to their backup quarterbacks this week. Bovada was quick to develop prop bets for these moves so that bettors can bet on each team’s new quarterback.

Here are the prop bets around those quarterback changes as well as a key game in the AFC South in Week 7.

Sunday Setup: Rams deal with injuries

Some injuries are easy to diagnose right away, but others can change day-to-day. Many key players around the league were dealing with those more difficult injuries this week, and we have the most recent information available.

Here are some of the late injury updates from Friday evening for this week’s NFL action.

Jahvid Best ruled out with a concussion

SEC Tiger Fight: Auburn vs LSU

The LSU Tigers have looked unbeatable to this point, and hope to stay that way at home against the Auburn Tigers this week.

At 7-0 SU and 5-2 ATS, LSU has won every game by double digits and are 3-1 ATS in conference play as they head into this SEC cat fight.

Jarrett Lee needed only 14 passes in LSU’s 38-7 win over Tennessee to pick up 115 yards and two touchdowns.

Spartans Badgers in Big Ten Clash

In one of the most exciting matchups of the week, the Wisconsin Badgers get their first big road test of the season when they visit the Michigan State Spartans.

The home team has won the last six games in this Big Ten rivalry; will Michigan State keep that trend alive and end another undefeated season this week?

Wisconsin has won every game this season by at least 31 points, including last week’s 59-7 win over Indiana in which Montee Ball rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns.
