Kentucky vs WKU: South Bracket

Fresh off a loss in the SEC championship game Kentucky, the top overall seed in this NCAA tournament, begins its march toward the Final Four Thursday evening when it takes state rival Western Kentucky.

WKU won the South Regional play-in game with a rally past Mississippi Valley State Tuesday. Now they get the top seed in the bracket. 

Kentucky came within one win of going undefeated in SEC play this season, but lost the conference championship game Sunday to Vanderbilt.

The spread wasn't posted at press time but expect a double-digit line in favor of the Wildcats. It's significant because Kentucky is just 1-5 ATS in its past 6 games as double-digit favorite.

This matchup is a neutral-site affair being played at KFC Yum! Center.

The Wildcats sit at 32-2 (13-20 ATS) on the season. By comparison, the Hilltoppers are currently 16-18 (18-15 ATS). Looking to wager on the totals? Kentucky is 12-18-2 OU, and Western Kentucky is 17-15-1 OU.

The Jayhawks, who are appearing in the tournament for the 24th straight season, are favored by 15 points over the Titans. Detroit won the Horizon League tournament to earn their first Big Dance invitation since 1999.

Kansas is favored but not by a huge amount as Bovada had them at -15 Wednesday.

The game is being played at CenturyLink Center, which makes it technically a neutral site match.

This season, the Jayhawks are 27-6 overall and 16-15-1 ATS ATS, while the Titans are 22-13 and 13-19 ATS against the number. As for the totals, Kansas boasts a 13-18-1 on the OU, and Detroit is 16-16.

Notre Dame takes on Xavier in an all-Catholic 7-vs-10 matchup Friday night in the South Regional.

And regular March Madness bettors know that Xavier has been by far the most profitable tournament team over the past decade, going 15-2-1 ATS in 18 games.

The Irish, who earned an at-large bid by finishing a strong third in the Big East, are favored by 2.5 points over the Musketeers, who earned their Big Dance invite by winning the Atlantic 10 tournament.

Greensboro Coliseum is the location for this game, which makes it a neutral-site matchup.

The Fighting Irish currently sports a 22-11 record overall in NCAAB action, and have posted a corresponding betting slate of 12-15 ATS. The Musketeers are 21-12 and 10-18-3 ATS. Betting totals have seen the Fighting Irish produce a 9-18 OVER/UNDER record on the season, while the Musketeers have gone 17-14 against the number.

Michigan State, champions of the Big Ten tournament and the top seed in the West, takes on 16 seed Long Island, which won both the Northeast regular-season and tournament titles, Friday night.

The Spartans, who jumped from No. 8 in the polls to a No. 1 seed with their win over Ohio State Sunday, are favored by 20 points over the Blackbirds.

St. Mary's takes on Purdue in the 7-vs.-10 game in the Midwest Regional Friday night that could be a high-scoring affair where the OVER is the best bet of the night.

The Gaels, who won both the WCC regular-season and tournament crowns, are getting a point and a half from the Boilermakers, who earned an at-large bid after finishing in sixth place in the Big Ten.

Purdue is 9-1 favoring the OVER in their past 10 games and they love the 3-ball. Both of St. Mary`s conference championship games were high-scoring OVER bets.

The game is being played at CenturyLink Center, which makes it technically a neutral site match.

The Gaels bring a 24-9 record (17-13 ATS) to this tilt against the 21-12 Boilermakers, who are 17-14 ATS. OVER/UNDER bettors have witnessed St. Mary's go 15-14-1 so far and the Boilermakers go 20-11.
