Red Sox Aim for Sweep of Blue Jays

David Ortiz Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have been riding a surprisingly potent offense in the early days of the 2016 season and can complete a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays north of the border on Sunday. Boston’s offense is averaging seven runs and the bullpen has yielded a total of two runs of 16 combined innings.

Shark Bites
  • The Red Sox are 2-5 in Wrights last 7 starts.
  • The UNDER is 4-0-1 in Estrada's last 5 starts.
  • The OVER is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.

Boston came from behind to win both games in the series so far thanks to a lacklustre effort from the Bluebirds’ bullpen. The Jays have surrendered 16 runs in the first two contests of the season, however they do have the ever-solid Marco Estrada on the mound today. Steven Wright is scheduled to counter for the Sox.

The Red Sox have been a boon for OVER bettors, as they’ve gone above the closing total in each game so far this season. They haven’t exactly been lighting the world on fire with Wright on the road, going 1-4 in Wright’s last five starts away from Fenway Park dating back to last year.

Arrieta Riding a Crazy Scoreless Streak

Jake Arrieta Chicago Cubs

Chicago Cubs’ ace Jake Arrieta picked up where he left off in hist first start of the 2016 campaign, tossing seven shutout innings against the Los Angeles Angels. The 2015 Cy Young Award winner has not give up a run in 29 consecutive innings dating back to September 16. Arrieta squares off against another talented hurler on Sunday in Shelby Miller of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Shark Bites
  • The UNDER is 5-1-1 in Arrietas last 7 road starts.
  • The Cubs are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
  • The Diamondbacks are 8-3 in their last 11 games following a loss.

Miller had a rough debut for the D-backs, allowing six runs in six innings versus the Colorado Rockies. All six runs came in the fourth inning via three home runs.

The Cubs are still reeling from the news that talented outfielder Kyle Schwarber will miss the season after the 23-year-old suffered a devastating knee injury. Chicago has no shortage of firepower even without him in the fold, however.

Due to Arrieta’s prowess on the mound, it shouldn’t surprise anyone to learn the UNDER is a hot bet when he takes the hill. In his last 11 starts, the UNDER is 8-2-1.

Great Pitching Duel in Dodgers-Giants

Madison Bumgarner

The pitching at AT&T Park has been something to see so far this season, and fans in the Bay Area can expect more of the same Saturday. Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Ross Stripling took a no-hitter into the eighth inning on Friday, and Clayton Kershaw will take the ball for the Dodgers while Madison Bumgarner counters on the bump for the Giants.

Shark Bites
  • The Dodgers are 4-0 in their last 4 games vs. a left-handed starter.
  • The UNDER is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.
  • The Dodgers are 4-0 in Kershaw's last 4 road starts.

San Fran has won 10 of its last 12 games versus division rival L.A. at AT&T Park. Kershaw was in midseason form on Opening Day, striking out nine and holding the San Diego Padres scoreless over seven innings in a 15-0 romp. The Texas native is 16-7 with a 1.54 ERA in 30 career starts against the Giants, including six complete games and five shutouts.

Bumgarner earned the in in his Opening Day start versus Milwaukee despite battling flu-like symptoms. The 2014 World Series MVP allowed three runs and wive walks over five innings. Dodgers’ slugger Yasiel Puig has had Mad Bum’s number, as the Cuba product is 7-for-24 with two home runs against Bumgarner.

The Giants have won three of the last four matchups when Kershaw and Bumgarner get together.

Angels' Richards Has Dominated Rangers

Garrett Richards Angels

Saturday’s slate of MLB action pits the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels against each other with no shortage of firepower on the mound. Cole Hamels is scheduled to get the ball for the Rangers, while Garrett Richards will start for the Angels.

Shark Bites
  • The Rangers are 11-0 in Hamels' last 11 starts on grass.
  • The Angels are 7-1 in Richards' last 8 starts vs. the Rangers.
  • Rangers are 11-26 in the last 37 meetings.

Hamels has historically been a slow starter, as the left-hander went 2-7 with a 4.42 ERA in 13 April starts from 2013-15. Hamels did notch his first victory of the season by defeating the Seattle Mariners on Monday, however. He also tossed a complete game against the Angels on October 4, allowing two runs and three hits in a 9-2 victory that clinched the American League West title.

Richards has thoroughly loved facing the Rangers in his career. The pitcher is 9-2 with a 3.20 ERA in 18 career appearances versus Texas.

Pacquiao vs Bradley III Betting Odds

Manny Pacquiao Timothy Bradley

One of the greatest boxers of this generation is set to hang up his gloves after one final bout on April 9. Manny Pacquiao will challenge Timothy Bradley for the third time in Pac-Man’s swan song.

Though the combatants split the first two bouts, pretty much everyone agrees that Pacquiao was robbed in his split decision loss to Bradley in June 2012. The second meeting of the two was a unanimous decision victory for Pac-Man, as the Filipino picked apart Bradley’s defense consistently for 12 rounds.

NASCAR Odds: Duck Commander 500

Jimmie Johnson is the favorite entering a third straight race this week, as the current Sprint Cup standings leader has the best odds to win Saturday’s Duck Commander 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway.

Johnson, who online sportsbook Bovada has pegged at +400, won the race last year but in the 19 year history of the race there’s never been a back-to-back winner.

Jazz Have Plenty to Play for Sunday

Gordon Hayward Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz’s postseason hopes are looking promising thanks to another team: the Houston Rockets. Houston dropped two games in a row this week, which has caused the Jazz to maintain sole possession of the eighth and final playoff spot and one game ahead of the Rockets. A win against the Denver Nuggets would go a long way into pushing Utah back into the playoffs for the first time since 2012.

Shark Bites
  • The Jazz are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss.
  • The OVER is 4-1 in the Nuggets last 5 games.
  • The Jazz are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Denver.

The Nuggets are well out of the playoff race, and they haven’t particularly fared well versus Utah. In the first three meetings of the season, Utah scored an average of just 84.3 points - the second lowest the Jazz have allowed against a West opponent all year long. The Jazz can sweep Denver for the first time since the 2002-03 campaign when Hall of Famers Karl Malone and John Stockton were leading the charge.

Totals bettors will be happy to hear the UNDER is trending in a big way in this series. In the last eight matchups between the clubs in Denver, the UNDER is 7-1. Utah is also 8-2 ATS in the previous 10 meetings between the squads.

Jordan Spieth PGA

Only one day of the 2016 Masters remains, and fittingly, only one man remains atop of the leaderboard and odds lists everywhere. Jordan Spieth grabbed the lead on Thursday and hasn’t looked back, as the 22-year-old phenom sits alone at 3-under with 18 holes remaining.

Arsenal has Owned West Ham at Boleyn

Arsenal Premier League

Two London clubs meet with plenty on the line in the Premier League table when West Ham hosts Arsenal Saturday. Arsenal has a small chance at the Premier League title while the Hammers are still battling for a Champions League or Europa League spot.

Wings Face Must-Win Game vs Rangers

Dylan Larkin Red Wings

For the first time in seemingly forever, the Detroit Red Wings are not a lock to make the postseason this year. Saturday’s slate of NHL action pits the Wings versus a squad that’s already punched their playoff ticket: the New York Rangers. Detroit is tied with Boston for third place in the Atlantic Division, but owns the tiebreaker. The Wings have made the postseason in 24 consecutive years.

Shark Bites
  • The Red Wings are 15-7 in the last 22 meetings.
  • The OVER is 5-0-2 in the Rangers last 7 vs. Atlantic.
  • The Red Wings are 4-1 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest.

The Rangers are sitting in a tie with the New York Islanders for third place in the Metropolitan Division, however they would be may be smart to settle for the top wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and a first-round matchup with the Florida Panthers rather than battle the league’s hottest team, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Madison Square Garden has not been kind to the Wings, as Detroit has dropped five straight at the famous arena. In fact, home sides have been dominating this series for a while now, with road teams going 3-13 in the last 16 meetings between the Eastern Conference foes.

The UNDER is also hot in this series, evidenced by the O/U going 1-8-2 in their previous 11 matchups.
