Penguins Looking for Stranglehold in NYC

Up two games to one in their first round series against the Rangers, and with two games still remaining at home, the Penguins will look to suck the life out of the Rangers and their fans tonight at Madison Square Garden. Coming off a 3-1 win in Game 3, the Pens have been superb at stringing together victories vs the same opponent, as they’re now 9-2 in their last 11 games when winning the previous game in a matchup.

Pittsburgh opened as a healthy -120 favorite, with New York coming back at +109. Being on the road hasn’t hindered the Pens in the least, as they’re now 9-1 in their last 10 games as road favorites.

A ray of hope for Rangers backers is the team’s ability to bounce back after a loss, as they’re an impressive 18-4 in their last 22 games after a loss, which includes their 4-2 win in Game 2 of the series.

The opening total of 5 goals is a mark the teams have eclipsed twice so far in the series, but a number they went OVER just once in four regular season matchup, although two of those games ended with a total of five goals.

Which Thunder Team Will Show Up?

Kevin Durant Zaza Pachulia

There’s no shortage of NBA clubs up 2-0 in their respective first-round series, however the Oklahoma City Thunder are surprisingly not in that group. That’s because, after hammering Dallas 108-70 in Game 1, the Thunder fared terribly in a 85-84 loss in Game 2. Game 3 takes place tonight in the Lone Star State.

Shark Bites
  • The Thunder are 3-1 ATS in their last four games as a favorite of 9.0 or more.
  • The total has gone UNDER in the Mavericks' last seven games with a closing total of 196.5 or more.
  • The Thunder are 5-2 SU in their last seven games with two days off between games.

Despite the win, Dallas’s scoring woes could get much worse if sharpshooter Dirk Nowitzki is not at his best. Nowtizki is expected to play through a knee injury, as the German’s knee swelled up considerably in Game 2. Nowitzki is technically listed as day-to-day. The Mavs have no shortage of injuries, with David Lee, Deron Williams, J.J. Barea and Devin Harris are also banged up.

Entering the last matchup, Dallas had allowed an average of 111.6 points while dropping their first five meetings with the Thunder this year.

Extra rest has not led to covers for Mavericks bettors, as the squad is just 1-6 SU and 2-5 ATS in their last seven with two days off between games. The UNDER has been a hot bet, however, evidenced by the Mavs going below the closing total in nine of their previous 11 affairs.

If Curry Is Out, Wait On Golden State

If you like the Golden State Warriors and think Stephen Curry will sit out again for Game 3, you may want to sit back and relax. History says you probably want to wait until tip-off in these situations before taking the Warriors.

Curry has missed six games over the past two seasons and for every one of those games we saw the Warriors move to much more favorable number from open to close. The line moved at least two points in Golden State bettors’ favor each time and it moved at least four points in four of the six games.

Emoção a galope

Record-Setting Spreads In Spurs Series

There is some seismic stuff happening in the Memphis Grizzlies-San Antonio Spurs series and it has everything to do with sports betting.

We’ll forgive you if you haven’t noticed because, well, the Spurs are kicking the living hell out of the Grizzlies through the first two games, thereby rendering the spread meaningless. You may also not have noticed because you probably don’t have a point spread database that goes back 20 years.

Luckily, we do and it says this:

PGA: Valero Texas Open Odds

Jimmy Walker PGA

San Antonio is the setting this weekend when the PGA Tour rolls into town for the Valero Texas Open. The tournament features a decent field, as nine of the top 30 players in the world rankings will be participating.

At online sportsbook Bovada, defending champion Jimmy Walker is a +1400 favorite to reclaim the title. Branden Grace (+1600), Patrick Reed (+1600), J.B. Holmes (+2000) and Matt Kuchar (+2000) round out the top five.

Portland Posting Ugly Numbers vs Clippers

Damian Lillard Chris Paul

The Los Angeles Clippers cruised to a 20-point blowout win in Game 1 of their Western Conference first-round series with the Portland Trail Blazers, but the Blazers will be seeking for a better performance tonight in Game 2. Portland is 0-4 SU and 1-3 ATS in its previous four meetings with Lob City.

Shark Bites
  • The visiting team is 1-4 SU in its last five games in this matchup.
  • The Trail Blazers are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games after a loss.
  • The Clippers are 1-8 ATS in their last nine games with two days off between games.

A rejuvenated Blake Griffin made all the difference for the Clips. Griffin, playing in his sixth game after missing more than three months with a pair of injuries, had his best stat line since returning, finishing with 19 points, 11 assists and six rebounds. L.A. shot 53.8 percent from the field and committed only 10 turnovers in the victory.

The Blazers opened as 8.5-point underdogs, which won’t inspire much confidence in their backers. Portland is a measly 0-5 Su in its last five when tabbed as an underdog of 8.5 points or less.

Royals, Tigers Scoring Lots Of Runs

Pitchers from the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers have dreaded when the two teams have met with the offenses going berserk in their matchups. The Royals and Tigers have averaged a combined 13 runs per game in their past eight with the OVER hitting in each of those outings.

However, it may be hard for these two teams to get a lot of offense against the starters today with Jordan Zimmermann and Ian Kennedy both starting the season red-hot for their new clubs.

Zimmermann has not allowed a single run so far this season through his first two starts. The newest member of the Tigers starting rotation has given up just eight hits in 13.0 innings of work this season. Kennedy has been just as good Zimmermann with the Royals' pitcher allowing just one earned run in his first two starts with KC.

Sale Has Historically Dominated Angels

The Chicago White Sox will send ace Chris Sale to the mound, as the strikeout machine will look to continue his great start to the season against the Los Angeles Angels Wednesday. Sale has fared well against the Angels in his career with the left-hander going 4-0 with a 1.73 ERA while averaging 5.8 strikeouts in five career starts against LA.

The Angels will counter with Garrett Richards who, despite being winless, has started the season pitching well. Richards has posted a 3.57 ERA while averaging 6.3 strikeouts per game through his first three starts.

If there is one White Sox batter that has enjoyed facing off against Richards it is Jose Abreu. The first baseman has only faced Richards six times in his career, but is four-for-six with one home run and four RBIs.
