NASCAR Odds: Duck Commander 500

Jimmie Johnson is the favorite entering a third straight race this week, as the current Sprint Cup standings leader has the best odds to win Saturday’s Duck Commander 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway.

Johnson, who online sportsbook Bovada has pegged at +400, won the race last year but in the 19 year history of the race there’s never been a back-to-back winner.

Jazz Have Plenty to Play for Sunday

Gordon Hayward Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz’s postseason hopes are looking promising thanks to another team: the Houston Rockets. Houston dropped two games in a row this week, which has caused the Jazz to maintain sole possession of the eighth and final playoff spot and one game ahead of the Rockets. A win against the Denver Nuggets would go a long way into pushing Utah back into the playoffs for the first time since 2012.

Shark Bites
  • The Jazz are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss.
  • The OVER is 4-1 in the Nuggets last 5 games.
  • The Jazz are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Denver.

The Nuggets are well out of the playoff race, and they haven’t particularly fared well versus Utah. In the first three meetings of the season, Utah scored an average of just 84.3 points - the second lowest the Jazz have allowed against a West opponent all year long. The Jazz can sweep Denver for the first time since the 2002-03 campaign when Hall of Famers Karl Malone and John Stockton were leading the charge.

Totals bettors will be happy to hear the UNDER is trending in a big way in this series. In the last eight matchups between the clubs in Denver, the UNDER is 7-1. Utah is also 8-2 ATS in the previous 10 meetings between the squads.

Masters Odds: Can Spieth do it Again?

Jordan Spieth PGA

Only one day of the 2016 Masters remains, and fittingly, only one man remains atop of the leaderboard and odds lists everywhere. Jordan Spieth grabbed the lead on Thursday and hasn’t looked back, as the 22-year-old phenom sits alone at 3-under with 18 holes remaining.

Arsenal has Owned West Ham at Boleyn

Arsenal Premier League

Two London clubs meet with plenty on the line in the Premier League table when West Ham hosts Arsenal Saturday. Arsenal has a small chance at the Premier League title while the Hammers are still battling for a Champions League or Europa League spot.

Wings Face Must-Win Game vs Rangers

Dylan Larkin Red Wings

For the first time in seemingly forever, the Detroit Red Wings are not a lock to make the postseason this year. Saturday’s slate of NHL action pits the Wings versus a squad that’s already punched their playoff ticket: the New York Rangers. Detroit is tied with Boston for third place in the Atlantic Division, but owns the tiebreaker. The Wings have made the postseason in 24 consecutive years.

Shark Bites
  • The Red Wings are 15-7 in the last 22 meetings.
  • The OVER is 5-0-2 in the Rangers last 7 vs. Atlantic.
  • The Red Wings are 4-1 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest.

The Rangers are sitting in a tie with the New York Islanders for third place in the Metropolitan Division, however they would be may be smart to settle for the top wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and a first-round matchup with the Florida Panthers rather than battle the league’s hottest team, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Madison Square Garden has not been kind to the Wings, as Detroit has dropped five straight at the famous arena. In fact, home sides have been dominating this series for a while now, with road teams going 3-13 in the last 16 meetings between the Eastern Conference foes.

The UNDER is also hot in this series, evidenced by the O/U going 1-8-2 in their previous 11 matchups.

Shorthanded Clips on a Roll vs Jazz

Clippers Rivers Crawford

*Update – Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan, J.J. Redick and Wes Johnson will all sit out tonight’s game.

There’s no other way about it — the Clippers have been absolutely laying the smack down on the Jazz over the past few season, winning 14 of their last 15 games against them. The wins haven’t translated to many covers though, as they’re just 4-5-1 ATS against the Jazz in their last 10 matchups.

With the Clippers resting a handful of key players, they opened as 7.5-point underdogs as visitors tonight. The visiting team in this matchup has been paying out, going 5-1 ATS in the last six games between the squads. As road dogs this season, the Clippers have gone 4-10 SU and 6-8 ATS.

Even though they’re contending for a playoff spot, the Jazz have been miserable against teams with winning records. Utah is an awful 1-11 SU and 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games against teams with winning records, so proceed with caution, even against the undermanned Clippers.

You might think the write-off the Clippers with their studs sitting this one out, but you should think again. With Paul, Jordan and Reddick all sitting out against a fully loaded Thunder team in OKC last Friday, they came up just two points short in a game they led going into the fourth quarter. Player prop bettors and daily fantasy players will want to give Austin Rivers and Jamal Crawford a look tonight as both players went off for 32 points when given extended minutes against the Thunder.

PGA: Masters Sleeper Picks

Danny Willett PGA

Betting on golf can be a very profitable endeavour, but it can also be a frustrating one. At the end of the day it’s all about picking your spots. When it comes to the 2016 edition of the Masters, starry names like Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are topping odds lists, but there’s plenty of sleeper value in the tournament if you dig deep.

Spurs a Poor Bet vs Pacific Division

Two NBA heavyweights will square off tonight in Oakland with the Spurs trying to derail the Warriors’ hopes of a 73-win season. San Antonio has been a team to fade when facing teams from the Pacific division, as they’ve gone 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games in that spot. The Warriors, on the other hand, have been a profitable wager against Southwest division squads, going 11-4 ATS in their last 15 matchups.

This matchup has been extremely one-sided in recent years with the Spurs winning nine of 11 SU vs the powerhouse Warriors (also, 6-2 ATS in their last eight meetings). They’re met twice so far this season with each team earning a win and a cover on their home court. When they played in Oakland on January 25, the Warriors dominated, winning 120-90, easily covering a 4.5-point spread. Steph Curry went off for 37 points, but in their most recent meeting on March 19, he scored just 14 points in an 87-79 loss, which was a season-low scoring output for Golden State.

Tonight’s game opened with a total of 209.5. The teams have gone UNDER in four straight against each other, and have combined to go UNDER in seven of their last 10 games. Going UNDER on the road is the norm for the Spurs, who’ve gone 14-23-1 O/U when travelling this season.

As always with the Spurs, there’s a risk they could rest some starters, so be sure to monitor lineup activity as the game approaches.

Offense Not An Issue For The Cubs

Last year was supposed to be a coming out party for the Chicago Cubs, but a middling offense ultimately ended up being their undoing. That is not an issue so far this season as the team has scored 15 runs through their first two games. The Cubbies will look to continue rolling when they take on the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend, a team they have gone 4-1 against in their past five meetings.

John Lackey will make his first start for the Cubs after signing a two-year deal with the team in the offseason. Lackey had his best year in over a decade last season when the righty posted a 2.77 ERA with 175 strikeouts while posting a ridiculous WAR of 5.6.

Rubby De La Rosa, who is coming off an unimpressive Spring Training, struggled mightily against the Cubs last season. The right-hander gave up seven runs across 11.0 innings in two starts against the Cubs last year.
