West Virginia vs Clemson Start Madness

The Clemson Tigers destroyed UAB to earn the final 12 seed, and they will look to become the latest No. 12 to make life miserable for a 5 seed.

The game is being played at St. Petes Times Forum, which makes it closer for Tiger fans than Mountaineer fans, who hope their team can cover a 2-point spread and advance to the second round.

Clemson ranked 20th nationally in defense, which could interest UNDER bettors today. The Hokies have struggled ATS, going just 3-7 in their past 10 and the history of 5's struggling against 12's is well documented.

NCAA Tourney Betting: Thursday

The bracket busting begins with the March Madness Round of 64 on Thursday from coast to coast.

The only top seed in action on Thursday is the Southeast's No. 1, Pittsburgh. The Panthers open up against First Four winner N.C. Asheville as a 17.5-point favorite at Bovada.

NBA Lines: Grizzlies, Knicks

The Knicks will try to cover the spread at Madison Square Garden on Thursday when they get a visit from the Memphis Grizzlies in basketball action.

The Knicks sit at 34-32 (39-25-2 ATS) on the season; in comparison, the Grizzlies are currently 37-31 (42-25-1 ATS). Looking to wager on the totals? New York is 33-32-1 OU, and Memphis is 35-33 OU.

March Madness Betting Trends

Just because a No. 1 has never lost to a No. 16 in the Big Dance doesn't mean you should take all the top seeds against the spread in the opening round.

The trends are actually calling for a few ATS upsets of heavily-favored top seeds on Thursday and Friday. But you would never know it by the heavy betting volume on the No. 1 seeds over at Bovada.

More than 90 % of the action is on Duke and Kansas, while nearly 95% were betting Notre Dame to cover the spread against Akron.

West Regional Odds Duke Favored

Last year’s champion earned another No. 1 seed with a stellar season in the ACC, although they lost to UNC in the conference title game.

Duke is a significant favorite in odds to win the West Regional this year, comfortably ahead of San Diego State. The Spartans have been to the tournament four times since 1985 and never won a game.

That will change for the 2-seeds who open with Northern Colorado.

Southeast Region Odds Pitt Favored

Pittsburgh has been a regional power for many years but it has never translated into a deep tournament run.

The Panthers expect that to change this year as the No. 1 seed in the Southeast and bettors expect the same. [ Get matchup reports and trends on every game ]

Southwest Region Odds Kansas Favored

The consensus among oddsmakers is that the Southwest Region is a lock for the Kansas Jayhawks.

While some brackets have close regional odds among the top seeds, Kansas is a runaway 13/10 (almost even money) favorite to win here. No. 2 seed Notre Dame is more than 3/1 odds while Purdue is nearly 5/1.

Kansas opens with a cupcake on Friday (Boston U) although low seeds with school names starting with ‘B’ have caused Kansas heartache before (recall Bucknell and Bradley in successive madnesses).

East Regional Odds Ohio State Favored

With Player of the Year candidate Jared Sullinger leading the charge, Ohio State was dominant much of the season.

The Buckeyes went 32-2, but did lose a pair of tough conference road games in February (Wisconsin and Purdue) to shake the confidence of some bettors.

UNC Asheville visit Arkansas-Little Rock

The Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans and UNC Asheville Bulldogs tip off at Dayton Arena on Tuesday with a spot in the Round of 64 March Madness dance at stake.

This matchup, featuring play in game odds that favor UNC Asheville, is one of four games to whittle down the field of 68 teams. It will decide which team faces Pitt to open the tournament in the Southwest Regional.

The Bulldogs will try to spoil to the party on Tuesday; they are 3-1 ATS against the number this season, while the Trojans are 13-14 ATS.

VCU vs. USC Play-In Game Odds

USC gets it suspended coach back for this First Four matchup with Virginia Commonwealth Rams Wednesday as the schools battle for the final spot in the Field of 64 tournament teams.

This matchup is a neutral-site affair being played at Dayton Arena with the winner earning an 11 seed and facing Georgetown on Friday in Chicago.

The Trojans currently sports a 19-14 record overall in NCAAB action and had coach Kevin O'Neil suspended for jawing with fans in the Pac 10 tournament. The Rams are 23-11 SU, but a money-draining 10-15 ATS. Betting totals have seen the Trojans produce a 10-18-1 run favoring the UNDER on the season, while the Rams have trended slightly OVER at 14-10.
