Buckeyes vs Golden Bears: Week 3 odds

The health of Buckeye quarterback Braxton Miller kept this line off the board early in the week, but it was sitting at 16 points as of Thursday.

Miller was injured in No. 2 Ohio State’s win over San Diego State, but backup Kenny Guyton came in and played well.

Cal has struggled in its first two games under new coach Sonny Dykes. The Bears lost to Northwestern in their opener and struggled to sneak by Portland State last week.

Cal has failed to cover the spread in its last seven games.

The Bears are 15-29 against the spread at home over the last 11 seasons and just 3-9 ATS as home underdogs.

Mayweather Betting Odds Shorter

Betting on Mayweather has been one of those rare 100% guaranteed wagers, but not everyone can afford to place the bet.

It's different Saturday as he faces Saul Alvarez, because oddsmakers view Canelo as a more serious threat to Mayweather's perfect 44-0 record.

"Normally, laying a bet on Floyd Mayweather forces you to risk so much money that it's not really worth the bet," explains Jack Randall of OddsShark.com. "When he is a 6-1 favorite, it means betting $600 to turn a $100 profit - pretty risky without a ton of return."

NFL Betting: Week 2 Line Moves

There’s plenty of betting love for Andy Reid’s Kansas Chiefs as we head into the second weekend of the NFL season.

After opening as a pick ‘em, the Chiefs have grown to 3-point favorites over the visiting Dallas Cowboys in one of largest line movements of the week.

Reid, who is in his first season in Kansas City, covered the spread in four of his last five meetings with the Cowboys during the end of his tenure in Philadelphia. Now, the big fella is coaching with a chip on his shoulder with the Chiefs.

Boise State vs Air Force Betting Report

Boise State's Broncos, after bouncing back from an opening weekend loss with an easy victory over Tennessee-Martin, look to make it two in a row when they host Air Force (1-1) Friday night on the blue turf at Bronco Stadium (8 pm ET, ESPN).

As of early this week Boise State (1-1), which just scored 63 points over the weekend, was favored by 23 points over the Falcons, who just gave up 52 points in losing to Utah State.

Air Force has lost 12 straight SU as a double-digit underdog.

Royals face Tigers, Fister in Detroit

The Detroit Tigers will hand the ball to Doug Fister on Saturday night as they continue their MLB betting series at home against the division-rival Kansas City Royals.

Fister is 12-8 with a 3.77 ERA on the season, and in his 12 career outings against the Royals he's 3-5 with a 4.00 ERA. The righthander also faced Kansas City in his last start, surrendering five runs over 6 1-3 innings in that defeat.

Kansas City counters with Ervin Santana, who will try to quiet the fans and the Tigers bats at the same time.

A's vs. Rangers Friday 13th Odds

A key series in the battle for the American League West title will get underway in Arlington on Friday night as the Texas Rangers play host to the rival Oakland Athletics.

The Athletics are just 4-6 over their past 10 games against the Rangers, but they won two of three games between the teams when they last met in early September in Oakland. The UNDER has paid out in four of their last five matchups.

Daniel Straily, with a record of 9-7 on the season, gets the ball for the Athletics, while the Rangers trot Derek Holland to the mound in this one. He is 9-8 so far in 2013.

Kansas

Kansas was arguably the worst BCS team in the country last year, finishing 1-11 SU and 5-7 ATS with no wins against BCS opponents and bottom-10 production nationally on both offense and defense. On the bright side, there isn’t anywhere to go but up from here. Jake Heaps will take over at quarterback and has the raw talent to be a star, even if he is a project. 17 JUCO transfers were a part of the recruiting class and should help infuse the defense and special teams with some energy. Kansas will finish last in the Big 12 again, but maybe with an extra win or two.

Iowa State

Iowa State went 6-7 SU and 5-8 ATS last year, which is pretty par for the course when it comes to this program. With a solid running back corps returning and a mobile quarterback in Sam Richardson under center, Iowa State will try to compete with opposing offenses in the Big 12 by keeping them off the field for as long as possible. Iowa State pulled off upsets over Iowa and TCU last season; while the Cyclones won’t compete for the Big 12 title, recent history suggests that they’ll play spoiler once or twice before season’s end.

West Virginia

Despite returning a powerhouse offense and starting the season off 5-0 SU, West Virginia fizzled down the stretch with a 2-6 SU and 3-5 ATS record, failing to reach the high expectations it had coming into the year. While the offense wasn’t always consistent, the defense was the main concern, finishing among the worst in the country in passing defense and scoring defense.  With the loss of eight starters on offense including quarterback Geno Smith and no reason to expect a complete 180 on defense, Dana Holgorsen’s squad looks to be in for a rebuilding year in 2013.

Texas Tech

Texas Tech looked sharp in getting out to a 6-1 SU and ATS start last season, but finished up 2-4 SU and 0-6 ATS to end 2012 on a sour note. Offensive mastermind Kliff Kingsbury takes over as head coach, and should keep with the recent tradition of making the Red Raiders one of the nation’s best offensive teams even as they break in a new starting quarterback. There will be a learning curve though, especially on defense, where the unit surrendered 31.8 points per game last year and will be learning a new scheme this season. This team will play in plenty of shootouts.
