Preds Struggling Versus Central Division

Pekka Rinne Nashville Predators Patrick Kane Chicago Blackhawks NHL

The Nashville Predators are on track to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but if they do not start winning games against teams within their own division, they could be in danger of missing out. The Preds, a terrible wager versus the Central Division, start a three-game stretch versus division rivals with a trip to the Windy City to face the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday night.

Shark Bites
  • The Predators are 1-4 SU in their last five games versus the Blackhawks.
  • UNDER is 5-0 in the Predators’ last five games.
  • The Blackhawks are 18-7 SU in their last 25 games.

Online shop Bovada is offering the Blackhawks as -155 moneyline favorites while the Predators are +125. The total is tabbed at 5 goals with OVER currently -135 and UNDER presently +105.

With a record of 6-11-3 SU within the Central, the Predators have the worst record against division rivals among that group. They still sit fourth in the division with 69 points – 10 back of the St. Louis Blues – and if the playoffs started today, they would be in.

The Preds have 21 games remaining and nine of those are against division rivals so they need to start performing better within their group. They’ve lost back-to-back contests versus teams from the Central and have gone just 2-9 SU in their last 11 versus the division.

The Blackhawks have absolutely owned the Predators on home ice recently, posting a 7-0 SU record in their last seven meetings. The Hawks have gone just 5-4 SU in nine games since the All-Star break and were thumped 6-1 by the Minnesota Wild in an outdoor game on Sunday.

Chicago has been jockeying for position with the Dallas Stars atop the Central recently and will look to keep up with a win Thursday. The fact that the Preds have abhorrent in recent trips to Chicago certainly does not bode well for the visitor tonight.

UFC 196: McGregor vs Diaz Odds

The superfight between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos will not be taking place at UFC 196. News broke early February 23 that RDA had broken his foot in preparation for the bout and was forced to withdraw from the fight.

The Best Way to Bet the Anaheim Ducks

Anaheim Ducks NHL

The Anaheim Ducks are easily playing their best hockey of the season and enter Wednesday’s schedule with a five-game winning streak; the longest current such streak in the league. When a team is playing as well as the Ducks are, sometimes there is little-to-no value when backing them at the betting window in SU moneyline markets. Where you can find value in backing the Ducks, however, is to win in regulation.

NBA Team Focus: Be Wary of the Cavs

Cleveland Cavaliers Tyronn Lue

As the calendar turns to March, the days in the NBA regular season are starting to dwindle and teams are getting geared up for the playoffs (except for the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns, of course). With the postseason on the horizon, there’s one squad bettors may need to be wary of in the coming months – the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bettors Have Caught U.S. Election Fever

Election fever is officially upon us and the bug has caught a different group of followers this election: bettors.

Las Vegas and offshore sports books are reporting they are seeing more interest than ever before for a Presidential election, with at least one book, Bovada, saying they are seeing more than double the action this election compared to last.

2016 Razzies Odds and Betting Preview

Before we can gather to admire the top filmmaking of the past year, we get the 36th Annual Razzie Awards. The show, which takes place the night before the Oscars, “awards” the worst movies and performances of the previous year.

It would not be the Razzies without a strong showing from Adam Sandler and this year is no different. The once mildly entertaining actor is up to win his fourth Golden Raspberry for Worst Actor, which would tie the all-time record with Sylvester Stallone, for his performance in Pixels.

Cruising Capitals Host Lowly Canadiens

Alexander Ovechkin Washington Capitals NHL

Alex Ovechkin and the NHL’s best team, the Washington Capitals, vie for their fifth-straight win when they host the Montreal Canadiens at the Verizon Center Tuesday night.

Shark Bites
  • The Capitals are 9-1 SU in their last 10 games.
  • The Canadiens are 0-5 SU in their last five games on the road.
  • The Canadiens are 3-8 in their last 11 games versus the Metropolitan Division.

Online book Bovada is currently offering the Caps as -230 faves on home ice in moneyline markets while the Canadiens are +180. The total is tabbed at 5.5 with OVER sitting at +105 and UNDER presently -135.

The Caps have been the league’s dominant force since the puck dropped on the season and they haven’t looked back. They head into Wednesday’s game with 92 points – 17 up on the East’s next best team, the Florida Panthers. Each of the victories in their current streak have been close, with a 3-2 triumph on home ice over the Arizona Coyotes serving as their last effort Monday.

Ovechkin has caught fire of late, tallying 11 goals and 13 points in 10 February games, catapulting him to the top of the NHL’s goalscoring leaderboard with 39. The sniper has failed to score against just four teams this season and these Canadiens can lay claim to being one of those franchises.

The Habs are surely anticipating the end of the season as they plummet down the standings with each passing day. They’ve lost four of five with a 2-1 shootout loss to the Nashville Predators coming in their last effort Monday.

Though the Capitals do not provide a ton of value on a standalone moneyline ticket, they are great candidate for parlay tickets. They’ve won the two previous meetings with the Habs already this season and are surely in store for a third Wednesday.

Can Sooners Turn Around ATS Record?

The Oklahoma Sooners may be one of the best teams in the nation on the court, but they have been struggling at the betting window. Oklahoma is just 11-13 ATS on the season and have covered just one of their past five games. Despite this, the Sooners will be facing the Oklahoma State Cowboys Wednesday, a team they are 8-1 ATS against in their past nine meetings.

Oklahoma has hit the skids lately going just 2-3 SU in their past five, but a second half surge in their last game against West Virginia leaves room for optimism heading into the end of the regular season.  The tandem of Buddy Hield and the much less heralded Isaiah Cousins have combined for an average of 40.9 points and nearly seven made three pointers in the past 10 games.

Oklahoma State did a good job at forcing turnovers in the first meeting between the two teams as they made Hield cough up the ball 10 times, tied for the second most in a single game this season. The Cowboys have picked up just one win in their past while averaging a mere 59.8 points per game.

Musketeers Winless Against Wildcats

Xavier has only been a part of the Big East since 2013, but they have still yet to figure out Villanova. The past three years have seen the Musketeers and Wildcats faceoff six times, with Villanova going a perfect 6-0 SU and ATS in that span.

Xavier will be out for revenge after they were decimated 95-64 in their meeting against Villanova earlier this season. The Musketeers were held to just 39.2 percent shooting while allowing the Wildcats to hit 62.2 percent of their shots. Villanova’s starting five combined for 77 points as each of them scored double-digits points in that game.

Villanova enters Wednesday’s massive tilt on a seven-game winning streak, a span that has seen them dismantle all comers by an average of 16.4 points per game. Kris Jenkins has become a consistent scoring threat through those seven games with the junior tallying 14 points per game and hitting double-digits scoring in six of those affairs.

Freshman point guard Edmond Sumner, who got injured early in the first outing between these two teams, has become an excellent facilitator of the Xavier offense recently. Sumner has averaged 15 points while shooting 70 percent during Xavier’s current three-game winning streak.
