Rare Total in Devils-Sabres Game Tuesday

Cory Schneider New Jersey Devils NHL

Tuesday’s meeting between the New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres leaves a lot to be desired, but it is unique in that the total is currently 4.5. If that mark stands, it will be just the seventh game this season that featured a 4.5-goal total.

Shark Bites
  • Buffalo is 4-2 SU in its last six games overall.
  • Devils are 5-0 SU in their last five games versus the Sabres.
  • UNDER has cashed in 13 of the last 18 meetings between the Devils and Sabres.

Online shop Bovada is presently offering the Devils at -145 in moneyline markets while the Sabres are at +115. OVER 4.5 goals is currently -145 while UNDER is +115.

The Devils, who are the lowest scoring team in the league, have been involved in all six of the previous games with a 4.5-goal total. They have gone 2-4 SU and the OVER/UNDER record in those games is 3-3. Furthermore, there has been an average of six goals scored per game in the previous six.

The Sabres average just 2.4 goals per game, which ranks 25th in the league. They enter Tuesday’s game with a two-game winning streak and have actually scored four goals in each contest.

The last game with a 4.5-goal total was on April 2 when the Tampa Lightning skated to a 3-1 win over the Devils on home ice.

Yankees Seeking Revenge Against Astros

Dallas Keuchel Masahiro Tanaka

The New York Yankees and Houston Astros are very familiar with each other, and tonight’s Opening Day showdown features a pair of hurlers who recently faced off in the American League Wild Card Game. Dallas Keuchel’s Astros got the better of Masahiro Tanaka’s Yankees in that game, which means the Yanks will have plenty of motivation to avenge that loss.

Shark Bites
  • The Astros are 3-0 SU in their last three games against the Yankees.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 13 of the Astros' last 17 games against the Yankees.
  • Due to inclement weather, this game was originally scheduled for Monday.

Fresh off a Cy Young season, Keuchel became Houston’s first 20-game winner in over a decade in 2015. The 28-year-old tossed six scoreless innings to lead the ‘Stros past the Bronx Bombers last October. Keuchel had 22 scoreless frames in three starts against the Yankees last year, including the playoff outing.

Tanaka is coming off a rocky spring training that saw him post an ugly 7.36 ERA in four starts. The Japan native had offseason surgery to remove a bone spur in his right elbow.

Keep an eye out for Astros shortstop Carlos Correa in this one. Correa, who was considered an MVP candidate, hit .378 with four home runs in 18 spring training games.

Hornets are Stinging Raptors' Bettors

Kemba Walker Kyle Lowry

The playoff-bound Toronto Raptors and Charlotte Hornets could very likely square off in the postseason, but before they get there they’ll do battle in a regular season affair tonight at the Air Canada Centre. The Hornets have had a major edge at the betting window in this series, as the bunch from “Buzz City” are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings between the clubs.

Shark Bites
  • The total has gone OVER in five of the Raptors' last six games.
  • The Hornets are 5-2 SU and ATS in their last seven games against teams with winning records.
  • The Raptors are 6-1 SU in their last seven games after a loss.

With six games left and Cleveland holding a 3.5 game lead atop of the Eastern Conference, the Raptors are clearly focusing their sights on the postseason. Charlotte has fallen to sixth place but still has plenty to play for, as the Hornets will need to post a winning record in the home stretch of the season to clinch home court advantage in the first round.

Raps head coach Dwane Casey decided to rest his dynamic backcourt in Saturday’s 102-95 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, however it sounds like DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry will see the floor tonight. Toronto is 28-9 north of the border on the year.

The re-insertion of the duo into the lineup could give the Hornets some major headaches. DeRozan totalled 54 points in the first two clashes between the Eastern Conference foes this season, while Lowry has collected 38 points, 18 assists and 10 rebounds.

Expect Offense in World Series Rematch

Though you don’t immediately think of the New York Mets or Kansas City Royals as offensive juggernauts, there have been runs aplenty when the two square off against one another. The OVER is 6-1 in the past seven contests between the Mets and Royals with the two teams combining for an average of 8.7 runs per game.

New York will send fireballer Noah Syndergaard to the mound with the youngster looking to continue his solid play against KC. Thor has only pitched once in his young career against the Royals, though that came in Game 3 of the World Series, with the Syndergaard going 6.0 innings while allowing three runs and tallying six strikeouts.

The Royals will counter with finesse pitcher Chris Young who posted a 3.06 ERA and 1.09 WHIP last season. Young pitched twice in the World Series against the Mets with the veteran allowing just two hits over 7.0 innings.

Jazz Desperately Need a Win Tonight

Patrick Mills Gordon Hayward

Two teams in very different situations collide in Salt Lake City tonight when the Utah Jazz play host to the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs, who are firmly established in the No. 2 Western Conference spot, are simply going through the motions to end the regular season, while the Jazz are battling Dallas and Houston for the West’s final two postseason berths.

Shark Bites
  • The Spurs are 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS in their last four games with two days off between games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 10 of the Jazz's last 12 games.
  • The Jazz are 5-1 SU and ATS in their last six games at home.

Home court advantage has been huge in this series, with home sides going 1-6 ATS in the previous seven matchups between the Spurs and Jazz. If Utah can finish above the Mavs and Rockets and claim seventh place, these squads could be seeing a lot more of each other in the not so distant future.

Utah’s stout defense has been lauded for a multitude of reasons this year, but it’s been non-existent when they play San Antonio. The Spurs have averaged 112.3 points while holding to Utah to 85.7 in three games this season – the highest differential the Spurs have had against a West opponent.

The Jazz’s struggles go back much further, however. Utah has lost 16 of its last 20 versus San Antonio since the 2010-11 campaign.

Bolts Need One Point for Playoff Berth

Tampa Bay Lightning New York Rangers NHL

The Tampa Bay Lightning need just one point to advance to the playoffs and will look to punch their ticket when they visit Madison Square Garden Tuesday night.

Shark Bites
  • The favored team is 0-6 SU in the last six meetings between these two teams.
  • The Rangers are 0-3 SU in their last three games with zero days rest.
  • OVER has cashed in five of the Rangers’ last six home games.

The Bolts are coming off a 5-2 loss at the New York Islanders Monday night but a single point will lock up second place in the Atlantic Division. Tampa is sitting on 95 points with three games remaining; all of which are on the road. The Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins are right on their heels with 91 and 90 points respectively.

The Rangers clinched a playoff spot with a 4-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets Monday night. They sit three points behind the second-placed Pittsburgh Penguins in the Metropolitan and with the way the Pens are playing, the Blueshirts will probably have to settle for third.

The visiting team has had the edge in the past six regular season games, going 5-1 SU and the Bolts won their previous three visits to Madison Square Garden, which came in last season’s Eastern Conference final.

PNC Park Has Not Been Kind to the Cards

The St. Louis Cardinals have had recent struggles when travelling to Pittsburgh, as the Cards have gone just 2-5 in their past seven games visiting PNC Park.  However, St. Louis has outscored Pittsburgh 16-9 in their past three meetings in the Steel City.

Michael Wacha had a tough spring, but looks to continue his historically good play against the Pirates Tuesday. Wacha is 3-1 with a 3.19 ERA in seven career games against the Bucs, six of which were starts. However, his one start against the Pirates last season was rocky with the righty allowing seven hits and three runs over 5.0 innings.

Jonathon Niese will make his first career start outside of a New York Mets uniform after the veteran was sent to the Pirates during the offseason. Niese has traditionally started hot, as the leftie has a 2.75 ERA while allowing just one hit per inning in April starts since the beginning of 2013.

PGA: Exact Finish Masters Odds

Bubba Watson PGA

While there’s no denying picking pre-tournament outright winners in golf can create massive payouts, it’s not the easiest task considering the huge amount of players in the field. That’s why options such as top five, 10, 15 and 20 finishes are often safer bets if you have a hunch you know who’s going to be in the hunt.
