Boxing betting action for September will feature a WBO Lightweight title fight between Ricky Burns and Raymundo Beltran, a WBC and WBA Light Welterweight title fight between Lucas Martin Matthysse and Danny Garcia, and a WBC and WBA Light Middleweight unification title fight between Saul Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Hamels vs Strasburg: MLB Betting Preview

A pitching battle shapes up Monday as the Philadelphia Phillies host Washington.

The Phillies will turn to Cole Hamels, who is much better than his 6-13 record, as they look for a win in this one, while the Nationals send Stephen Strasburg (6-9) to the hill. Ditto for Strasburg in terms of struggling to earn wins in 2013.

The Phillies are 13-3 in Hamel's past 16 starts against Washington. Strasburg has already dominated the Phils twice in 2013 and goes for a third beating. The Nats are 4-1 in his five career starts against Philly.

Florida State favored big at Pitt

The Jameis Winston era kicks off at Florida State with a road test at new ACC foe Pittsburgh.

Winston, a dynamic redshirt freshman quarterback, is a darkhorse Heisman candidate and leads a Seminole offense that returns seven starters, including four offensive linemen. Pittsburgh enters its second season under coach Paul Chryst with tempered expectations.

Rutgers transfer Tom Savage will start at QB for the Panthers, who return just five starters on offense. Pittsburgh has covered the spread in four of its last five games as a home underdog.

Florida State has covered the spread in all three season openers under coach Jimbo Fisher, but all three of those games have come against non-BCS competition.

And FSU bettors should beware the recent Noles trend: they are 0-6 ATS in their past 6 games as a road favorite.

UFC Fight Night: Teixeira vs. Bader

Live fights will be on Fox Sports 1 for the second straight Wednesday this week, and UFC betting action is available on all eleven UFC Fight Night 28 bouts.

The card includes fights with top-10 contenders from the UFC Light Heavyweight, Middleweight, and Flyweight divisions.

Rangers open series against the rival A's

With four wins in their past five games against the Oakland Athletics the Texas Rangers will be looking for another strong result as the teams start an MLB betting set on Monday.

Overall the Rangers are 6-4 in their past 10 games against the division-rival Athletics, with the two teams battling for the AL West crown down the stretch. The OVER/UNDER went 4-5-1 for totals bettors in those 10 Rangers vs. A's matchups.

The Athletics will rely on Daniel Straily to turn in a quality outing on the mound in this one, while Derek Holland will be his counterpart for the Rangers. Daniel Straily is 7-7 this season, and Derek Holland is 9-6.

Spread surges in Patriots vs Bills opener

The New England Patriots have dominated the Buffalo Bills for the last decade-plus, and they'll try to continue to do so when the AFC East rivals meet for their 2013 season opener Sunday in Orchard Park (1 pm ET, CBS).

As of late this week the Patriots, who have beaten the Bills 23 of the last 25 times they've played, were favored by 11.5 points over home-dogged Buffalo.

Tom Brady and Co. are 7-1-1 ATS in their past nine visits to Buffalo, where a rookie quarterback and a new coach await the Pats to start the season.

The Bills are on a 6-2 ATS run their past 8 season openers. The Pats offense usually starts quickly, as their 9-2 mark favoring the OVER in 11 recent September games indicates.

Nats host the Mets on Sunday Night MLB

A pair of National League East teams will be in the MLB betting spotlight on Sunday Night Baseball as the Washington Nationals play host to the New York Mets.

Washington is expected to start Ross Ohlendorf on Sunday, with the righthander sitting at 3-0 with a 2.49 ERA on the season. Ohlendorf picked up a win against the Marlins in his most recent start, allowing one run over his five innings.

New York counters with Jonathon Niese, who will try to quiet the fans and the Nationals bats at the same time.

Louisville big chalk vs Ohio Bobcats

This is a sneaky good matchup between perennial MAC power Ohio and a Louisville team receiving plenty of hype this offseason.

Ohio opened last season by winning at Penn State, but the Bobcats are much bigger underdogs (+21) against the Cardinals.

Heisman candidate Teddy Bridgewater leads a Louisville offense that averaged 31.2 points per game last season. Ten starters return on the Cardinals’ defense.

Ohio’s offense is led by senior quarterback Tyler Tettleton, who led the Bobcats to an impressive 45-14 rout of Louisiana-Monroe in the Independence Bowl last season. The Cardinals are just 7-14 against the spread at home under coach Charlie Strong.

NFL Betting: Book wary of Bears, Lions

With the kickoff of the NFL season just days away, sportsbooks are busy assessing where they stand.
At Bovada, the Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49ers, and Seattle Seahawks have attracted the most bets to win the Super Bowl. The Broncos and 49ers will start the season as the favorites. Both sit at 6-to-1.

Cowboys Giants Betting Preview for Week 1

The Cowboys are 3-point favorites, but don’t be surprised if the Giants are the more popular bet by kickoff.

New York has dominated this series in recent years and Eli Manning has never lost in four trips to new Cowboys Stadium.

Dallas is 6-13-1 against the spread versus the Giants in the last 20 meetings. The Cowboys have covered only once in the last two years versus the Giants and are 6-14 against the spread in their last 20 home games.

New York, however, did struggle on the road down the stretch last season, losing their last four away games straight up and against the spread.

The Cowboys have struggled to a 2-12 ATS mark in their past 14 games within the NFC East and they are 1-5 SU & ATS past 6 at home vs the Giants.

Dallas is 5-1 ATS in the past 6 Week 1 games, while an UNDER trend prevails in Giants road games (9-1 past 10).
