NHL Odds: Blackhawks vs Kings Preview

Los Angeles Kings Tyler Toffoli

The Los Angeles Kings, AKA the hottest team in the NHL, have won seven consecutive games and will be seeking to make it eight in a row Monday against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center. L.A. stated the season on an ugly three game losing streak but have seemingly recaptured the magic of seasons past ahead of the Western Conference tilt.

Shark Bites
  • Kings C Tyler Toffoli has nine goals in 10 games so far this season.
  • Blackhawks RW Marian Hossa is questionable for the game with a lower-body injury.
  • The OVER is 8-1-2 in the last 11 meetings between the clubs.

The Blackhawks are in the middle of the pack standings-wise (6-5-0), but have been a much different team at home compared to on the road. The reigning champs are 5-1-0 in the Windy City - a trend that will surely appeal to Hawks backers. UNDER bettors have loved Chicago this season due to their penchant for participating in low-scoring affairs. The OVER/UNDER has gone 1-8-2 in the Blackhawks' opening 11 contests.

Jonathan Quick and Corey Crawford are the probable starting goaltenders for the Kings and Blackhawks, respectively. Quick owns a 6-3-0 record to go along with a 2.09 goals against average and .925 save percentage, while Crawford is 5-3-0 with a 1.76 GAA and .938 save percentage.

Michigan State Can’t Get Past Nebraska

Michigan State Cook

Michigan State is undefeated and are coming off a bye week, but are facing a Nebraska team that they’ve historically struggled against. The Spartans are 2-5 SU and just 1-6 ATS in their past seven games against Nebraska, with those two wins taking place in the past two seasons.

Michigan State is undefeated and will likely need to stay that way if they want to win the Big Ten with both Ohio State and Iowa flawless so far this season. Spartans quarterback Connor Cook has been phenomenal this season with 17 touchdowns and only two interceptions while posting a 146.5 rating.

This season has been one of the worst for Nebraska as the team is just 2-6 SU and winless within the conference. First year coach Mike Riley watched his team pull off something terrifying on Halloween as Nebraska lost to the 1-6 Purdue Boilermakers.

Nover: Patriots Unbeaten Year Ahead?

The 2007 New England Patriots are the only NFL team to go 16-0 during the regular season. This year's Patriots team could be the second.

Several bet shops, including Bovada and South Point in Las Vegas, had put out a two-way prop on New England going unbeaten. Those odds opened 20-1 the Patriots would not and 12-1 they would.

Right now 12-1 seems high.

James Bond - 007 Spectre Props

Daniel Craig 007 James Bond Spectre

On November 6, the 24th entry in the James Bond franchise hits theatres, with Daniel Craig once again playing the lead role in Spectre. The movie is a sure bet to fill theatres for the remainder of the fall, but how good will the movie do on it’s opening weekend?

Online sportsbook Bovada has set the OVER/UNDER for Spectre’s domestic opening weekend at $90 million.

History of NFL Teams Who Start 6-0 & 7-0

Cam Newton Superman

After seven weeks of NFL action, five teams stand with perfect 6-0 records. The Bengals, Broncos, Packers, Patriots, and Panthers have all reached the six win mark and will be shooting for 7-0 records this weekend.

Ailing Cowboys Play Host to Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks Marshawn Lynch

It’s usually an entertaining battle when the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys square off, but Week 8’s contest leaves a lot to be desired for a multitude of reasons. Dallas has been ravaged by injuries, headlined by star quarterback Tony Romo and dynamic wideout Dez Bryant. Matt Cassel was given the reigns of the quarterback position in Week 8 and had a day to forget, throwing three interceptions en route to a 27-20 loss to the New York Giants.

Shark Bites
  • The Seahawks are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against the Cowboys.
  • The Cowboys are 11-2 SU and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games after consecutive losses.
  • The home team is 6-1 SU in the last seven games in this matchup.

Seattle’s 3-4 SU record is perhaps even more underwhelming than it looks on paper. Including a 20-3 stomping of the suddenly lowly 49ers, the Seahawks still have some work ahead of them if they want to catch the first place Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West.

The ‘Boys have been atrocious when it comes to covering spreads this season, going 1-5 ATS. Needless to say, Romo and Bryant can’t get back on the field soon enough for Cowboys backers.

SNF – Undefeated GB & DEN Collide

Green Bay Packers Randall Cobb

In what’s arguably the most anticipated contest on the Week 8 NFL slate, the Green Bay Packers’ high-flying offense takes on the Denver Broncos’ rock solid defense in a battle of undefeated teams at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. It’s never easy to stop the 2014 MVP Aaron Rodgers, but the Broncos appear to be up for the test. Denver has been allowing an average of 281.3 total yards per game this season (tops in the NFL) while ranking second in points allowed (17).

Shark Bites
  • The Packers are 6-0 SU and ATS in their last six games after the bye.
  • The Packers are 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS in their last six games as road favorites in November.
  • Denver’s Emmanuel Sanders and DeMarcus Ware have returned to practice after suffering injuries.

The Packers (5-1 ATS) and Broncos (4-2 ATS) haven’t played each other since October of 2011, meaning Sunday’s matchup will be extra interesting to see how Rodgers, one of the top quarterbacks in the game, fares against Peyton Manning – a quarterback who will go down as one of the greatest ever.

If there’s one aspect that’s going to dictate the outcome of this game, it’s on the ground. Denver has been struggling immensely to get anything going in the running game, ranking 30th in the NFL in rushing yards per game (85). That hasn’t been a problem for Green Bay, as star running back Eddie Lacy and serviceable backup James Starks are averaging 127.3 rushing yards per game – the eighth best mark in the league.

Lakers Struggle When Hosting Mavs

LA Lakers Kobe Bryant

The Los Angeles Lakers have not started the season well on the court or at the betting window with the team posting a 0-2 SU and ATS record so far this season. Things may not get better for the Lakers as they host the Dallas Mavericks Sunday, with LA going just 5-12 ATS in their past 17 at the Staples Center against the Mavs.

Through two games this season the Lakers have allowed a league-high 244 points, the most the team has allowed in the opening two games since 266 in 1982-83. The Lakers have been all offense and no defense this season as they have averaged 112.5 points per game and five of their players are averaging double-digit points.

The Mavericks have dominated the Lakers, winning their past seven games between the two teams, but will hope for some manpower on the court. The Mavs are already dealing with injury issues with Deron Williams, Wesley Matthews, Chandler Parson and Javale McGee all sitting out their last game

Canadiens Still Perfect On Home Ice

The Montreal Canadiens start a four-game homestand on Sunday when the Winnipeg Jets visit the Bell Centre. The Canadiens have still yet to lose a game at home this season and have won their past six at the Bell Centre including the postseason last year.

The Habs have outscored their opponents 15-4 at home this season. Early afternoon Friday goaltender Dutin Tokarski was recalled from the AHL following an announced lower body injury to Carey Price.

The Jets are coming into Sunday’s game after playing Saturday night, but Winnipeg is 2-0 this season in the second game of back-to-backs. In the second game of back-to-backs this season the Jets have outscored teams 7-2.

Rockets Continue to Be A Great UNDER

Houston Rockets James Harden

Dating back to last season, the Houston Rockets have gone UNDER in seven of their past eight including both games this season. James Harden and company will pack their packs and visit the Miami Heat on Sunday, with the past two games between the teams going UNDER.

The Rockets have struggled out of the gate this season, dropping both of their opening contests at home. Houston has lost by an average of 15 points per game in their first two and have averaged the second fewest points in the NBA.

The Heat have been getting the job done with a balanced attack early in the season. Through two games, the entire starting five is averaging 9.5 points per game or higher with Chris Bosh and Hassan Whiteside both averaging over five rebounds per game.
