NHL Betting: October’s Best & Worst Bets

Tyler Seguin Dallas Stars

A simple glance at the standings shows us who the best and worst NHL teams are so far this season, but how have teams fared so far at the betting window? With every team having at least 10 games under their belts, let’s take a look at the NHL’s best and worst money makers in October.

CFL Week 20 Trends and Betting Preview

The CFL concludes its regular-season schedule this week with four betting matchups on tap, including a key contest in Ottawa between the RedBlacks and the Tiger-Cats on Saturday. Here's a look at the odds and betting trends for Week 20 of the CFL season.

Winnipeg at Toronto - Friday, November 6

Last 10 Meetings: Toronto 8-2 SU, 6-3-1 ATS | OU 6-4

Toledo Undefeated SU and ATS So Far

Toledo QB Eli

The Toledo Rockets are 7-0 SU and ATS this season, though their competition has been less than stellar with only one of their seven opponents carrying a winning record at this point in the season. Toledo will play host to the Northern Illinois Huskies Tuesday night.

The past three games have seen Toledo’s offense average 50.7 points per game and have an average scoring margin of plus-30 points. Quarterback Phillip Ely has gone off for the Rockets with the senior throwing 11 touchdowns in the past three.

NIU is coming into Tuesday night just as hot as Toledo, winning three-straight games while averaging 51 points per game during that span. Huskies running back Joel Bouagnon is tied for third in the nation with 14 rushing touchdowns this season.

Ohio State vs Minnesota Week 10 Odds

Minnesota Lidner

Minnesota is coming off a heart-breaking 29-26 loss at the hands of Michigan last week, but the Golden Gophers have proven to be great at regrouping for bettors. Minnesota is 7-2 ATS in their past nine games following a loss. The Gophers will visit the dominant Ohio State Buckeyes this Saturday.

It was an emotional night for Minnesota when they took the field against Michigan as they did it without long time head coach Jerry Kill who retired earlier in the week. Minnesota has now lost their past two games and three of their past four with a Bowl bid quickly evaporating.

Quarterback J.T. Barrett made all the headlines for Ohio State last week as he was arrested early Saturday morning for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Barrett will be suspended for this game, meaning Cardale Jones will be, once again, thrust into the spotlight.

Washington vs Utah Odds and Pick

Washington Football

Thanks to a stellar defense, the Huskies have been an amazing UNDER play with 11 of their past 12 games failing to top the closing total. Washington will play host to Pac-12 leading Utah Saturday.

Despite playing in the high-octane Pac-12, Washington has allowed just 16.9 points per game this season. The Huskies are coming off a 49-3 victory over Arizona, a team that had only scored less than 30 points once previous to that game.

Utah bounced back with a win over Oregon State last week after being humiliated by USC the game before. If the Utes are playing their top game offensively, the catalyst will be running back Devontae Booker, but if the team needs to rely on quarterback Travis Wilson it’s only a matter of time before he makes a mistake.

UCLA a Safe Bet Against Oregon State

If UCLA wants to hang around the Pac-12 title picture they will need to continue their traditionally good play against Oregon State. The Bruins are 7-3 SU and 8-1 ATS in their past 10 contests against the Beavers.

UCLA will need to iron out some issues as they enter a daunting finish to the season with three of their final four on the road. The Bruins struggled in the second half against Colorado allowing 25 after halftime.

Oregon State has lost their past five games, all of which were conference games. The Beavers are allowing more than 10 points per game than they are averaging so far this season.

Michigan vs Rutgers Week 10 Odds

Michigan Wolverines Football

The Michigan Wolverines have been far from a safe play at The Big House during November, as the team is 4-12 ATS in their past 16 home games during the month. Michigan will play host to the faltering Rutgers Scarlet Knights this weekend.

It will be important to watch the status of Michigan quarterback Jake Rudock who left the third quarter of last week’s victory with an apparent upper body injury. Redshirt freshman Wilton Speight came in at quarterback and despite only completing three of his six passes, he did throw the game-winning touchdown.

If there were illusions about Rutgers being better than their record, the past two games obliterated that. The Scarlet Knights have lost their past two games by a combined score of 97-17.

Monday Night Football: IND vs CAR Odds

Carolina Panthers Cam Newton

Are the Carolina Panthers for real, and have the Indianapolis Colts reached the point of no return? Thanks to a slow start by the Colts and some fantastic play by the Panthers, those are a few of the questions on the minds of many NFL experts right now. Both sides will be seeking to prove their worth when they renew acquaintances in Raleigh for the Week 8 edition of Monday Night Football.

Shark Bites
  • The Panthers are 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five games in November.
  • The Colts are 8-1 SU and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games after losing as favorites.
  • Colts QB Andrew Luck has a 54.6 percent completion rating – the worst number since his rookie year.

When it comes to cashing spread bets, the Panthers and Colts couldn’t be more different. Carolina (6-0-0 SU) is a blistering 5-1 ATS, while Indy (3-4 SU) is just 2-5 ATS at the betting window so far in the 2015 campaign. A porous Colts defense that’s allowed the most total yards in the NFL (408.6 per game) does not match up well against a Panthers offense that’s been dynamite on the ground, averaging 152.40 rushing yards per game.

The Colts will need Andrew Luck to be at his best, but that's easier said than done, especially after reports began to circulate on Sunday that Luck has been playing with fractured ribs.

The Colts are 6-2 ATS in their last eight Monday Night Football road games, while the Panthers have been strong over their past five November games, going 4-1 SU and ATS.

OKC Looks to Stay Perfect vs HOU

Russell Westbrook Thunder Dunk

Two teams with opposite records face off tonight in Houston when the 0-3 Rockets host the 3-0 Thunder. Both teams played Sunday with the Rockets getting beat down in South Beach by 20 points, while the Thunder blew out the Nuggets, 117-93.

Rockets fans will be happy to hear that their team has traditionally been strong at home vs the Thunder, going 14-6 SU in their last 20 home games against OKC. In their last four overall against the Thunder the Rockets have gone 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS. James Harden has been lights out vs his former team as the Rockets guard is averaging 27 points along with 6.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 10 career games vs OKC.

The Thunder have come out of the gate flying to enter the season, averaging 123 points per game in their three wins (including a game that went to double overtime). Although they’ve struggled in recent matchups with Houston, it should be noted that OKC is 3-1 SU and ATS in their last four as favorites vs the Rockets. In his last game against the Rockets in April, Russell Westbrook went off for a triple double, scoring 40 points, dishing out 12 assists and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Spurs-Knicks Tilts Have Led to OVERs

San Antonio Spurs Kawhi Leonard

It's early, but the New York Knicks look like a vastly improved team over last year's squad. Carmelo Anthony and company will have their hands full when they welcome the veteran-laden San Antonio Spurs to Madison Square Garden in NBA action Monday evening.

Shark Bites
  • The Spurs are 14-3 SU and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games as favorites.
  • The Knicks are 0-8 SU in their last eight games as home underdogs.
  • The total has gone over in the Knicks' last five games as underdogs.

The Knicks (2-1) will be seeking to collect their first victory of the season on home court after falling to Atlanta on Oct. 29. San Antonio (2-1) is still integrating recently acquired big man LaMarcus Aldridge into the lineup , but the Texas native has fit in well so far. Aldridge collected 24 points and 14 rebounds in San Antonio's 95-87 victory over Boston on Sunday.

Both clubs split the season series at one game apiece last season, highlighted by New York's 104-100 triumph as 14.5-point underdogs. The OVER has paid out in each of the last four meetings between the Knicks and Spurs.
