Temple vs Penn State West Bracket Preview

The Temple Owls lost their conference title game but come in favored over their bigger state rival in this West Region battle Thursday.

This game is being played at a neutral-site court (McKale Center) and sees the Owls as slight 2.5-point favorite over Penn State. Ramone Moore leads the Owls while Talor Battle is the best PSU player.

Temple comes in seeded seventh and many expect them to beat the 10th-seeded Nittany Lions and advance against the winner of the San Diego State game.

Louisville Morehead State Southwest Odds

The Morehead State Eagles will try to bust the bracket against the Cardinals of Louisville, looking to advance as a No. 13 seed in the Southwest Regional at Pepsi Center Thursday.

Louisville enjoys a significant edge in most aspects of this game, but Morehead State has good size which could cause trouble. The line has been moving in favor of Louisville, going from -8 to -10. The best current Louisville line was -9.5 at betED.

This season, the Cardinals were 25-9 overall and 18-10 ATS, while the Eagles are 24-9 and 15-10 ATS against the number. Both teams were profitable plays, but few expect the Eagles to advance here but our computer is predicting a close game.

Spiders Threaten Vandy in Southwest

If you are afraid of spiders, join the club - so are the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Upset winners of the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Richmond Spiders hit the madness on a roll and threaten Vandy's #5 seeding.

The Commodores sit at 23-10, while the Spiders are currently 27-7 (17-10-1 ATS). But Richmond has been hot, going 11-1 SU, 10-2 ATS in the past 12 games. The under is also 8-1 past 9 Richmond games, as the Spiders play tougher defense.

Monarchs vs Bulldogs Southeast Region

The Monarchs hope to royally screw up Butler fans by sending the Bulldogs out of the tournament early Thursday at Verizon Center.

Old Dominion has been on fire, going 9-0 SU and 7-1-1 ATS in their past nine games and winning the Colonial tournament. Butler, last year's finalist, will bring the same scrappy style that allowed it to repeat as Horizon League champs and they are slightly favored.

Butler will face the 27-6 Monarchs, who own a 14-12-2 ATS mark on the season. The best ODU line was at Sports Interaction at last check.

West Virginia vs Clemson Start Madness

The Clemson Tigers destroyed UAB to earn the final 12 seed, and they will look to become the latest No. 12 to make life miserable for a 5 seed.

The game is being played at St. Petes Times Forum, which makes it closer for Tiger fans than Mountaineer fans, who hope their team can cover a 2-point spread and advance to the second round.

Clemson ranked 20th nationally in defense, which could interest UNDER bettors today. The Hokies have struggled ATS, going just 3-7 in their past 10 and the history of 5's struggling against 12's is well documented.

2011 March Madness Betting Trends

Just because a No. 1 has never lost to a No. 16 doesn't mean you should take all the top seeds against the spread in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. The trends are actually calling for a few ATS upsets of heavily-favored top seeds on Thursday and Friday. But you would never know it by the heavy betting volume on the No. 1 seeds over at sportsbook Bovada.

West Regional Odds Duke Favored

Last year’s champion earned another No. 1 seed with a stellar season in the ACC, although they lost to UNC in the conference title game.

Duke is a significant favorite in odds to win the West Regional this year, comfortably ahead of San Diego State. The Spartans have been to the tournament four times since 1985 and never won a game.

That will change for the 2-seeds who open with Northern Colorado.

Southeast Region Odds Pitt Favored

Pittsburgh has been a regional power for many years but it has never translated into a deep tournament run.

The Panthers expect that to change this year as the No. 1 seed in the Southeast and bettors expect the same. [ Get matchup reports and trends on every game ]
