Mets' Offense Has Been Failing Syndergaard

Noah Syndergaard New York Mets

The New York Mets will try to avoid a three-game sweep against a last-place squad when they play host to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Big Apple Thursday.

Shark Bites

Braden Shipley and Noah Syndergaard are the probable starters. Shipley (1-1, 4.15 ERA) is making his fourth career MLB start and will be looking for his third consecutive quality start. The 24-year-old has surrendered a total of two runs and nine hits in 12 innings over his last two appearances.

Syndergaard (9-6, 2.64) hasn’t gotten much run support from the Mets’ struggling offense and is winless in his last five outings as a result. Syndergaard is 0-3 over that span despite owning a respectable 3.49 ERA.

National League West opponents have absolutely dominated New York lately when it comes to cashing run line bets. The Mets are 1-13 ATS in their last 14 against the division.

Rockies Have Been No Match for Rangers

The Texas Rangers continue to establish themselves as the best team in the American League and can complete a sweep when they host the Colorado Rockies on Thursday afternoon for the finale of their four-game, home-and-home interleague set.

Shark Bites
  • The Rockies are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 11 of the Rangers' last 14 games in August.
  • The Rockies are 5-19 SU in their last 24 games against the American League West division.

Chad Bettis and Lucas Harrell will take the bump for the Rockies and Rangers, respectively. Bettis (10-6, 5.13 ERA) extended his unbeaten streak to six starts in his last appearance, notching his fourth victory in that span. Bettis is 5-4 with a 4.95 ERA in 13 road starts this year.

Harrell (3-2, 3.46) fell to 2-3 in five career outings against Colorado on July 15 when he was tagged for seven runs on seven hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings.

Taking care of the Rangers has been no problem for the Rockies in recent years. The Rockies have won five straight contests against Texas.

Royals have Owned Al Central When Favored to Win

The White Sox and Royals meet tonight as two teams with identical records that have both fallen out of the playoff race. Kansas City still has one of the best home records in the league and will be a big favorite tonight as they send Danny Duffy (8-1, 2.97 ERA) to the bump.

Duffy has not gone shorter than 6 innings since a game against the Mets on June 22.
The White Sox are 3-13 as underdogs vs the AL Central division.
The Royals are 15-1 as favorites against the AL Central division.

Duffy is one of only six pitchers in the American League to own a sub 3.00 ERA and has led the Royals to eight straight wins in games he’s pitched. The lefty has actually been much better on the road but still owns a 4-0 record in nine starts at Kauffman stadium.

Miguel Gonzalez will toe the rubber for the White Sox in this one hoping to get his ERA under four for the first time since early June. Gonzalez has started 10 road games this season and has not earned a single win.

These team’s are coming off a 14-inning game in which they used a total of 12 relievers. An early lead in this one may not hold with the used up bullpens so whichever starter goes longer could be earning the W tonight.

Cubs' Winning Streak One Away From Double Digits

The Cubs are fresh off their sweep of the LA Angels and will begin a series with the Cardinals tonight looking for their tenth straight win. Chicago has been the favorite to win the World Series all year long and they are only bolstering that standing with this winning streak.

The Cardinals are 6-1 on the runline in their last 7 games against the Cubs.
The Cubs have won four straight in games started by Jon Lester.
The Cardinals are 7-5 as underdogs against teams in the NL Central.

Jon Lester will take the rock for the Cubs tonight and will put his sub 3.00 ERA and 1.09 WHIP on the line against the Cardinals and Carlos Martinez (10-7, 3.29 ERA). The Dominican has gotten roughed up in two straight starts but has been stellar on the road in 2016, posting a 2.28 ERA and a 6-1 record away from Busch.

The Cardinals currently sit in one of the two NL wild card spots and have their excellent road record to thank for that. The Redbirds are 11 games above .500 away from home and will be extremely motivated to stop the streak of their division rivals.

The Indians still own the longest winning streak this year with 14 in a row but if the Cubs keep things rolling at Wrigley they could challenge the Tribe’s feat.

Angels Have Dominated The AL Central

The Los Angeles Angels are the bottom-dwellers in the AL West, but a four-game set against an AL Central opponent may help them this weekend. The Halos have won seven of their past eight games against AL Central clubs, but will be contending with the division-leading Cleveland Indians this weekend.

Shark Bites
  • Jhoulys Chacin has a 5.27 ERA as a starter this season.
  • The Angels are 1-5 in their past six against the Indians.
  • The Indians are 19-8 in their past 27 games at home.

Jhoulys Chahin has not exactly been a steady force for the Angels since being acquired from the Braves. Chacin struggled as a member of the rotation and was sent to the bullpen, but has posted a steady 2.55 ERA in eight relief appearances since.

The start of the season was not excellent for Corey Kluber, but the Indians’ ace has found his stuff recently. Kluber has a 1.22 ERA across his past five starts – including two games in which he went 7.0 innings without allowing a run.
