Spurs are Huge Road Chalk vs Nets

It was a dark Sunday in Brooklyn for the floundering Nets, as the organization canned head coach Lionel Hollins and general manager Billy King thanks to an ugly 10-27 SU start to the 2015-16 NBA season. With the perennially dominant San Antonio Spurs in town Monday evening, Brooklyn have no time to collect their breath and begin life without Hollins.

Shark Bites
  • The Spurs are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games
  • The Nets are 1-10 SU in their last 11 games with one day off
  • The Spurs are 1-8 OU in their last 9 games after an ATS loss

San Antonio (32-6 SU) has been dominant both on the floor and at the betting window this year. Gregg Popovich and company are a sizzling 26-12-0 ATS – good enough to make them the best bet in the Association. The Spurs, who opened as 14-point chalk for the affair, are also a great at covering big spreads. San Antonio is 10-5 ATS this season when closing as double-digit favorites.

San Antonio has the best average margin of victory in the NBA (13.9 points). Nets interim coach Tony Brown will not have an easy road ahead of him, as the squad is plagued by aging players, bad contracts and no first-round picks for the foreseeable future thanks to King’s mortgaging of the future in 2013 as a part of the Paul Pierce-Kevin Garnett deal. Good luck, Tony.

Who Will Be UFC Champs at End of 2016?

The world of mixed martial arts is in constant flux. It's a world where you either grow or die. There are currently 10 weight classes in the UFC and seven of them had a different champion on January 1st, 2016 than January 1st, 2015.

With the boon of MMA over the past decade, a new class of all-around fighters are making their way into the UFC and that has created the most depth and parity in the company’s history. With more talent in the UFC today than ever before, a championship is never safe no matter whom the opponent is (isn’t that right Ronda).

Villanova Has Been A Safe Road Bet

Two ranked teams square off at Hinkle Fieldhouse Sunday when the Butler Bulldogs host the Villanova Wildcats. ‘Nova enters this game as a slight road favorite, but the Wildcats have been a steady bet when travelling as they are 7-2 ATS in their last nine road games.

The Big East is no joke, which has led to Butler starting conference play 1-2 with losses to Providence and Xavier. Butler has averaged 73 points per game in Big East games, which is more than 13 points less than their season average. The Bulldogs may be facing even more adversity in this affair as it seems like senior Roosevelt Jones will miss the game with an injured wrist, the same wrist that caused him to miss the entire 2013-14 season.

Villanova enters Sunday’s tilt leading the Big East in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense as they have yet to allow a conference opponent to score more than 71 points. Senior Daniel Ochefu has been on the best run of his college career as the forward has averaged 15.8 points and 11.3 rebounds in his past four outings.

Is OKC vs POR A Perfect OVER Storm?

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers will meet for the second time this season at the Moda Center Sunday. The OVER has been cashing for both the Thunder and the Blazers recently as each of the teams enter this Northwest Division matchup with the OVER hitting in six of their past seven respectively. The Thunder have been averaging 115 points per game in their last seven while the Blazers have been allowing nearly 106 points in each of their past seven.

It is likely the charity strip is going to play a big role in this game for these teams. The Thunder are one of the best teams in the league at getting into the lane, which has them ranked near the top of the NBA in free throw attempts per game and paint points per game. The Blazers have been bad at defending the lane as they have sent opponents to the strip more times then any other team in the Western Conference.

When these teams met earlier this season it was Steven Adams, of all people, who had a big game. Adams recorded 11 points and 12 rebounds in that affair, one of his two double-doubles on the season.

Panthers Are The Hottest Team In Hockey

The Florida Panthers will look to extend their franchise-record winning streak to 12 games when they visit the Edmonton Oilers Sunday. The Panthers winning streak has seen them climb from 11th to second in the Eastern conference and they now possess a five-point lead in the Atlantic Division

Backup netminder Al Montoya will take the crease for the Panthers against the Oilers. The Chicago-native has allowed just one goal in each of his past four starts while registering a .956 save percentage. Jaromir Jagr, who has nine points in his last 10 games, has loved facing the Oilers in his storied career with the future Hall-of-Famer registering 39 points and a +13 rating in 34 career games against Edmonton.

The Oilers have been surprisingly solid at home this season with a 12-8-1 record at the Rexall Place. However, if the Oilers want to put an end to the Panthers streak they will need better play from Taylor Hall. Edmonton’s star player has just two points in the last seven games.
