NBA Focus: Don't Sleep on the Nuggets

Emmanuel Mudiay Denver Nuggets

When talking about the most efficient teams in the NBA, squads like the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers rightfully top the list. But one franchise that’s quietly gone under the radar as a razor sharp play at the betting window is the Denver Nuggets.

The Nuggets (19-31 SU), who were sitting at 11th in the Western Conference as of February 4, won’t excite you at first glance. They’re a young group that’s in the process of a rebuild under a head coach (Mike Malone) who’s doing the best he can with an unproven roster.

Rangers are Struggling on the Road

Relying on the New York Rangers for consistent efforts has been a fruitless experience in 2016. The Blueshirts are just 1-11 in their last 12 games following a win, but will be looking to buck that trend Saturday when they tangle with division rival Philadelphia at Wells Fargo Center.

Shark Bites
  • The Flyers are 5-2 in their last 7 games following a win.
  • The OVER is 4-0-2 in the Flyers last 6 overall.
  • The Rangers are 3-7 in their last 10 meetings in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is starting to figure it out after a rocky opening to the season and are 8-3-1 in their last 12 thanks to a big 6-3 win over Nashville on Thursday. Philly backers will be pleased to know the home side is 17-6 in the last 23 regular season meetings between these clubs.

Part of the reason the Rangers have been so inconsistent is their poor play away from Madison Square Garden. New York is a paltry 3-13 in its last 16 road tilts — a mark head that’s surely worrying head coach Alain Vigneault with the playoffs on the horizon. On the other side of the coin, the Flyers are 7-3 in their last 10 home games.

Manning Has Added Motivation for SB50

Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning is a future Hall-of-Famer, an NFL legend and one of the most respected players in pro football. So, besides riding into the retirement sunset on top, what other kind of incentive does the 39-year-old have in Super Bowl 50 if his Denver Broncos can prevail over the Carolina Panthers? Cash money, of course. A lot of it.

UFC: Prop Odds on Potential GSP Return

Ever since Georges St. Pierre walked away from the UFC there has been rampant speculation as to if and when he would return. Despite recovering from a torn ACL he suffered during practice in early 2014, GSP decided to stay away from the sport and has openly criticized their drug testing policies. There have been several rumors about a potential return, and recently GSP trained with renowned boxing coach Freddie Roach and reports suggested that if he could make it through a training camp, he would return very soon.

The Most Exotic Exotic Props For SB 50

The Super Bowl isn’t just the biggest event for football fans; it’s the biggest event for bettors as well. With an event so big, you would be silly to think that books would stick to the usual totals and player props.

Exotic props have become a tradition just like Super Bowl ads. Both offer a wide variety of ridiculousness and head scratching, while ultimately proving all too entertaining to avoid.

So we have gathered the weirdest of the weird, the strangest of the stage, the exotic-est (?) of the exotic props into one list.

Wayne Rooney Manchester United Premier League

We are 24 games into the Premier League season and both Manchester United and Chelsea are outside of the Champions League spots. The two storied clubs meet up at Stamford Bridge in one of two Premier League contests Sunday.

Leicester Visits City as Race Heats Up

Riyad Mahrez Leicester City Premier League

Manchester City trails first-placed Leicester by just three points in the Barclays Premier League table and can pull even with a win as the top two clubs in the league meet at the Etihad Stadium in early soccer action Saturday.

Pistons Covering With Ease in Motown

Kristaps Porzingis Andre Drummond

The Detroit Pistons are holding onto the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and will host the team that’s right behind them in the standings on Thursday: the New York Knicks. Bettors who have backed the Pistons at home over the course of the last calendar year are profiting in a big way, as Stan Van Gundy’s club are 21-8-1 ATS in their last 30 games at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Shark Bites
  • The Knicks are 0-5 SU in their last five games on the road.
  • The total has gone OVER in the Pistons' last four games with no days off between games.
  • The total has gone OVER in six of the Knicks' last eight games after an ATS loss.

Oddsmakers opened the Pistons as 5.5-point faves for the tilt, which hasn’t been an issue for them when it comes to covering the spread. Detroit is 9-0 SU and 8-1 ATS in their prior nine as chalk of 5.5 points or more.

It’s been a much tougher go for the Knicks, however. New York is spiralling down the Eastern Conference standings, dropping six of their last seven to sit 3.5 games behind the Pistons. The Knickerbockers haven’t been able to keep things close, as the squad has suffered four double-digit defeats in the skid.

Pels are a Fantastic OVER Bet at Home

Kobe Bryant Anthony Davis

NBA fans may question why Thursday night’s Los Angeles Lakers-New Orleans Pelicans contest is getting the nationally televised treatment – a fair quip – however hoops bettors will be paying attention to one main stat. In the Pelicans’ 24 matchups at the Smoothie King Center, the OVER/UNDER is 18-6.

Shark Bites
  • The total has gone UNDER in the Lakers' last six games after winning as an underdog.
  • The Pelicans are 6-17 ATS in their last 23 games after losing the previous game in a matchup.
  • The total has gone UNDER in seven of the Pelicans' last 10 games with no days off between games.

The Lakers, who opened as 10.5-point underdogs at most sportsbooks, have been traditionally awful in this spot. The Lakers are 1-6 SU and 2-5 ATS in their previous seven when tabbed as underdogs of 10.5 points or less. Future Hall of Famer/ornery NBA veteran Kobe Bryant is listed as questionable for the affair with a sore shoulder after lighting up the Minnesota Timberwolves for 38 points on Tuesday.

Stringing wins together has been a monumental task for the Lakeshow as of late, as Byron Scott’s club are 2-13 SU and 4-11 ATS in games coming off a win.

The Pelicans (18-30 SU) have been far from a safe bet this season at 20-28 ATS, however they have turned things around as of late. The Pellies have won seven of their previous 11 games to keep their faint postseason hopes alive in a surprisingly weak Western Conference.

Trojans Struggling To Top The Bruins

USC is on the outside of the Top 25 with two losses in their past four, but picking up their second win against UCLA on Thursday could certainly help the team get ranked once again. The Trojans have historically struggled against the Bruins, as they are just 1-6 SU and 2-5 ATS in the past seven games between the two teams.

After struggling to get the offense going in two road losses, USC has averaged 89.5 points while nearly shooting 50 percent from the floor in their past two outings. The difference maker for USC when they defeated UCLA earlier this season was the bench play, specifically Chimezie Metu. The freshman went 8-for-10 with 21 points and eight rebounds while UCLA’s bench combined for two points and two rebounds.

If the Bruins want to win this game they will need to win on the defensive end of the floor as USC has averaged more than seven points less in their losses than their wins this season. Tony Parker had his best game of the season against USC as the senior scored 27 points while bringing in 12 rebounds and only turning the ball over once.
