Matz Looking to Clinch for the Mets

Steven Matz Mets

The Mets are on the verge of winning their first playoff series since 2006 after a 13-run outburst in Game 3. Steve Matz will be tasked with shutting down the Dodgers in what will be his first career postseason start, while the Dodgers will counter with their ace, Clayton Kershaw.

Kershaw has been far from ace-like throughout his career pitching in the playoffs. He currently holds a 4.99 career playoff ERA, but was decent in Game 1, striking out 11 batters and allowing three hits over 6.2 innings pitched. Kershaw will be pitching on just three days’ rest, something he’s done twice before in the playoffs, posting a 1-1 record.

To the delight of Mets fans, Kershaw hasn’t exactly been clutch when pitching with his team facing elimination. He holds an 0-2 record with an atrocious 9.00 ERA.

Matz will hope to contribute to a trend that has seen the Dodgers go 2-6 in their last eight road games. In one start against the Dodgers this season, Matz picked up a win, allowing just two hits in six innings pitched while collecting eight strikeouts.

Cardinals Have Been Dominant in NLDS

St. Louis Cardinals Stephen Piscotty reacts after hitting home run.

The St. Louis Cardinals may have their backs against the wall in Game 4 against the Chicago Cubs Tuesday, but history suggests that it is not safe to count out the Cards. St. Louis is 33-17 all-time on National League Division Series games and has only lost two of their 12 series’ overall.

The Cardinals will start John Lackey on short rest in the potential elimination game. Lackey has only started on short rest four times in his career with the veteran posting a 2-1 record and a 3.15 ERA.

Chicago’s bats blew up in Game 3 with the Cubs hitting a ridiculous six home runs. The Cubs had only hit six home runs in their previous eight games pervious to Monday.

Cubs starting pitcher Jason Hammel has struggled against the Cardinals this season. Hammel has made three starts against the Cards this season with a 5.73 ERA and five walks across 11 innings.

Punchless Penguins Host Red-Hot Habs

Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby

The Pittsburgh Penguins are still searching for their first win of the 2015/16 NHL season and will have their hands full in order to get it Tuesday evening when the Montreal Canadiens invade the Consol Energy Center. Montreal (3-0-0) has come out of the gate red-hot on both ends of the ice, surrendering just four goals while lighting the lamp 10 times in the young campaign.

Shark Bites
  • Pittsburgh has recorded 20 of a possible 26 points in its last 13 clashes with Montreal.
  • Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby has yet to register a shot on goal through two games.
  • The road team is 4-0 in the previous four matchups between these clubs.

Pittsburgh, a team that’s usually heralded for its goal scoring prowess, has gone ice cold when it comes to finding an offensive groove. The Pens have only mustered up one goal in their opening two contests in losses to the Arizona Coyotes and Dallas Stars.

Poor results on the power play have plagued both squads so far. Montreal is 1-for-13 with the man advantage, while Pittsburgh has failed to convert on all seven of their opportunities in two appearances.

Marc-Andre Fleury and Carey Price are the probable starters in net for the Pens and Habs, respectively. History shows the usually dominant Price hasn’t enjoyed facing Pittsbugh, as the 28-year-old has lost six of his last eight against the black and gold while posting a bloated 3.42 goals against average.

TNF - Falcons vs Saints Odds

Julio Jones Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons have dominated spread play against NFC South rival, the New Orleans Saints, with the Falcons posting a 17-8 ATS record in the past 25 games in the SuperDome. Atlanta will look to continue their perfect season when they travel to New Orleans on Thursday Night.

It was far from their best performance, but the Falcons managed to beat the Washington Redskins in overtime last week, to open their season 5-0. The last time the Falcons opened a season 5-0 was 2012, when they made the NFC Championship game.

The Saints have yet to figure out how to properly block on offense this season, with the O-line giving up 15 sacks while only averaging 3.7 yards per carry. Quarterback Drew Brees especially felt the pressure last week with the signal caller being sacked five times and fumbling twice.
