Odds to win March Madness up

The season opened with North Carolina favored to win it all and with a week to go, the Tar Heels still top the March Madness odds list.

Most online sportsbooks will have college basketball futures posted today, but Bovada was up first with odds to win March Madness posted. If you look at the odds, North Carolina should play Connecticut for the title, as they are the two favorites, while Michigan State and Villanova are the long shots.

Here are the four teams left in the Big Dance and their odds to win the National Championship at bodog.

Check out the current March Madness odds

North Carolina Tar Heels – 1.71/1

The Tar Heels come into the Final Four after beating Oklahoma 72-60. The Tar Heels have only lost one game since January 11th. Can the Tar Heels be stopped? I mean, in their win over the Sooners, reigning Player of the Year Tyler Hansbrough only had 8 points, but the Tar Heels still had no problem winning.

The Tar Heels are stacked with five players averaging over 10 ppg. This season the Tar Heels are averaging over 90 ppg and only giving up just over 72 ppg. In the Big Dance, their closest game was against the Sooners and they beat OU by 12 points.

Connecticut Huskies – 3.5/1

The Huskies come into the Final Four after beating Missouri 82-75 and have not lost since December 29th of last year. The Huskies will rely on 7’3 C Hasheem Thabeet (13.5 ppg 10.9 rpg) and F Jeff Adrien (13.7 ppg 10 rpg) to anchor their frontcourt and guards A.J. Price (14.7 ppg) and Jerome Dyson (13.2 ppg) to score from the perimeter.

The Huskies feature a great inside/out game and are tough to stop in their half-court offense. G Kemba Walker had 23 points in the Huskies win over Mizzu and if another bench player can blow up like that again the Huskies will be tough to beat. They will face a tough defense in their next game, as they play Michigan State for the right to play for the National Championship.

Michigan State Spartans – 6.75/1

The Spartans scored an upset over Louisville 64-52 in the Elite 8. The Spartans have won 10 of their last 11 games. The Spartans played a great defensive game in beating Louisville and they will need to do so again in their Final Four match up with Connecticut.

C Goran Suton (10.1 ppg 8.1 rpg) blew up for 19 points and 10 boards, including going 3/5 from 3-point land, and he will have a tougher time in their next game facing shot blocking machine Hasheem Thabeet of UCONN. For the Spartans it is all about their defense, as they are not a high scoring or dynamic offensive team.

Villanova Wildcats – 7.5/1

Villanova comes into the Final Four after a last second shot beat Pittsburgh 78-76. The lowest seeded team left in the Big Dance has been solid offensively, as they have scored at least 77 points in every game in the tournament.

The Wildcats had four players score in double digits in their win over Pitt in the Elite 8 and they will have to repeat that performance in their Final Four match up against the stacked North Carolina Tar Heels.

For the Wildcats to have any chance to win the National Championship F Dante Cunningham (16.2) has to be the main inside presence for the Wildcats and they have to play good all around defense.
