Rio 2016: Men's Golf Odds

The 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil mark the first time golf will be played in the Games since 1904. It features two events, the men’s and women’s individual competitions, which will be played at the new Olympic Golf Course in the Barra da Tijuca zone.

At Bovada, Sweden’s Henrik Stenson is a +500 favorite to emerge triumphant in South America. Sergio Garcia (+700), Justin Rose (+1000), Bubba Watson (+1400), Patrick Reed (+1400), Rickie Fowler (+1400), Martin Kaymer (+1600), Matt Kuchar (+1600), Danny Willett (+2200) and Emiliano Grillo (+2500) round out the top 10 at the shop.

While golf fans will be overjoyed to watch their favourite players compete, the reaction from many pros has been lukewarm. Big names like Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day backed out citing concerns over the Zika crisis. McIlroy even went as far as saying “I’ll probably watch the Olympics, but I’m not sure golf will be one of the events I watch.”

When it comes to handicapping the tournament, Stenson is unquestionably the man to beat. The 40-year-old is fresh off his first career major title at the Open Championship to go along with a seventh-place finish at the PGA Championship two weeks later.

As far as format goes, the event will feature a 72-hole individual stroke play tournament with the official rules of the PGA Tour. In the event of a tie for any of the first three positions, a three-hole playoff will determine the medal winners.
