Brazil the Heavy Favorite to Make 2nd Straight Olympic Final

The Brazilian men seem to have figured things out and are expected to take care of business when they face Honduras in the semifinals of the men’s Olympic soccer tournament. They reached the semis after their 2-0 dispatching of South American rivals Colombia.

SHARK BITES
  • Brazil has never won gold at the Olympics.
  • This is the first time Honduras has ever made the semifinals at the Olympics.
  • The Brazil U-23 team has lost only one game in 17 matches since September 2014.

Honduras is coming off a shocker against South Korea in their quarterfinal match which saw them move through to the semis because of an outstanding performance from keeper Luis Lopez. The Hondurans were heavily outshot in the match but like many teams in this tournament, they relied on their counter attack for offense and came through despite losing the possession battle.

Brazil has a chance in this one to shake off some of the demons that still haunt them from their 7-1 loss to Germany at the 2014 World Cup as this is the stage they suffered that devastating defeat. The hosts will have a chance for revenge if both Brazil and Germany advance to the gold medal match.

Bovada oddsmakers have put their faith in Neymar and the Brazilians and backed them with a -400 moneyline. If you feel the Cinderella story continues you can grab Honduras at +1000 odds.
