USA big chalk in basketball quarters
After outscoring their opposition by almost 200 points in five qualification-round victories the United States will head into Wednesday's quarterfinal matchup against Australia as a big favorite on the Olympic basketball betting lines.
The Americans (mostly) ran roughshod over their opponents in Group A play at the men's basketball tournament, with only Lithuania giving them any sort of a scare in a contest that they ended up winning 99-94.
The United States also won 98-71 over France, 110-63 over Tunisia, 156-73 over Nigeria, and then 126-97 over Argentina to close out the qualification round of the event on Monday.
And now the Americans will take on Australia in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Wednesday, with the Aussies ending up in fourth place in Group B with a 3-2 record.
Australia lost to Brazil and Spain, then rattled off three consecutive wins over China, Great Britain, and Russia. They're 33.5-point underdogs against the United States at Bovada.
The other quarterfinal in the top half of the men's hoops bracket in London has Brazil taking on Argentina, with Argentina the 2.5-point favorite on the basketball odds for the contest. The winner of that matchup faces the Americans in the semifinals.
In the bottom half of the bracket on Wednesday it'll be France vs. Spain and Russia vs. Lithuania. The Russians are pegged as 7-point favorites for their matchup with Lithuania at Bovada, with Spain a favorite of 5.5 points against France.
