USA Hoops big favorite for gold Sunday
The United States men's basketball team is once again listed as a big favorite on the odds at the sportsbooks as they get set to play against Spain in the gold medal game of the Olympic tournament on Sunday.
The Americans have won all seven of their games so far at the London Olympics, going a perfect 5-0 in the qualification round, getting past Australia 119-86 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, and then beating Argentina 109-83 in the semifinals on Friday.
Kevin Durant (19 points), Carmelo Anthony (18), LeBron James (18), Kobe Bryant (13), and Chris Paul (10) all scored in double digits for the Americans in their win over Argentina, and they also managed to pick up the ATS victory on the day.
For Sunday the United States is pegged as a -2500 favorite at 5Dimes to beat Spain, which is listed as a +1400 underdog. On the Olympic basketball odds at Bovada it's the United States at 1/33 to claim the gold medal, with Spain at 12/1.
Spain met Russia in the semifinals of the tournament on Friday, winning that game 67-59 after knocking off France 66-59 in the quarterfinals of the event on Wednesday. Spain went 3-2 in qualification, losing to both Russia and Brazil in that round.
Russia will take on Argentina on Sunday in the bronze medal game. Argentina beat Brazil 82-77 in the quarterfinals and went 3-2 in the qualification round of the tournament. Russia bounced Lithuania 83-72 in the quarterfinals; they were 4-1 in qualification.
That bronze medal game is set for 11:00am London time on Sunday, with the gold medal game then scheduled to get underway at 3:00pm London time to close out the Olympics.
