Orange Bowl Odds Preview

It’s a Top 10 battle between the Big Ten’s Iowa Hawkeyes and the ACC’s Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets when the 2010 Orange Bowl kicks off Jan. 5 in Miami.

(10) Iowa (10-2) vs. (9) Georgia Tech -4 (11-2) TOTAL was 51 at Bovada

While hardly a marquee battle for a BCS bowl game, it pits the high-powered Georgia Tech spread option offense against the terrific and stingy Iowa defense. The Yellow Jackets will try to run all day long and bettors have been putting money on them as the line moved from -2.5 and -4 as of Dec. 31.

Iowa was dominant in the Big Ten and coach Kirk Ferentz will need his team in top shape against a team that averaged more than 300 yards per game in rushing. Overall, Georgia Tech ranked 11th in total offense, while Iowa ranked 11th in total defense.

Linebackers AJ Edds and Pat Angerer, a finalist for the Bronco Nagurski Award, are critical to shutting down running back Jonathan Dwyer and QB Josh Nesbitt. Nesbitt rushed for nearly 1,000 yards and scored 18 times in 2009!

Iowa QB Ricky Stanzi is back after ankle surgery. He had led the Hawkeyes to a 9-0 mark before getting hurt. They also get running back Adam Robinson back from injury, so there is potential for more scoring than the Orange Bowl oddsmakers at Bovada think.
