Outback Bowl Odds Preview

Northwestern finished the season strong to earn a bowl invitation, but they’re still an underdog to Auburn on the Outback Bowl odds.

Northwestern vs. Auburn -8, OU 54.5 at Bovada

The Wildcats won four of their final five games of the season and that included surprising upsets over ranked teams Wisconsin and Iowa. Those two wins earned Northwestern only their fifth bowl invite since 2000. It wasn’t enough to earn them favorite status though and they’re quite large underdogs at +8 at Bovada.

The Tigers are lucky to even be in a bowl game after their horrible end to the season. After starting the season 5-0 Auburn won only two of their final seven games to just barely sneak into bowl season. Auburn did put up a fight against Alabama in the season finale which may be one reason they’re an 8-point favorite.

Northwestern (8-4 SU, 5-6 ATS) has a potent weapon in quarterback Mike Kafka. He led the Wildcats to the No. 2 pass offense in the Big Ten after passing for 2898 yards with 12 touchdowns. Kafka is also dangerous on the ground and amassed 265 rushing yards and seven TDs this season.

The Tigers (7-5 SU, 6-5 ATS) had the No. 3 scoring offense in the SEC this season and they needed it to make up for their inconsistent defense. Auburn ranked dead last in the SEC in scoring defense this season and eighth in yards allowed. The Tigers were weaker against the run and allowed 24 rushing TDs this season, but they may not be a problem versus the Wildcats pass-first offense.
