Phils moneyline chalk vs. Braves

With March Madness betting done for the year, sports wagering turns to baseball odds this week. And some great early matchups offer some great money-making opportunities, both on the MLB moneyline and the runline.

Atlanta Braves (1-0) at Philadelphia Phillies -120 (0-1) 7:05 PM ET

The MLB odds menu at has the Phillies favored on the moneyline at -120 and the Braves as the underdog at Even. The total opened at 8.5 at BookMaker (check out the latest odds on this game during the day).

In the opening game of the MLB season on Sunday night, the Braves beat the defending champion Phillies 4-1 in the City of Brotherly Love. {URL=}MATCHUP REPORT {/URL}

Many MLB experts are picking the Phillies and Mets to battle it out for the NL East crown, but the Braves are still legit and may be the wild card in the division.

Taking the mound tonight for the Braves is Jair Jurrjens and for the Phillies Jamie Moyer.

Prized free agent Derek Lowe quieted the bats of the Phillies only allowing two hits on Sunday night. Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard were a combined 1-11 in that game and those guys are the fuel to the Phillies offense.

The Phillies offense has to show up tonight and perform, which will not be easy against Jurrjens, who lead all NL rookie pitchers in wins and ERA last season.

Last season in four starts against the Phillies, Jurrjens went 1-2 with a 3.33 ERA. The ageless wonder Moyer had a great year last season (16-7 3.71 ERA), but had no decisions in two starts against the Braves last year with an ERA of 6.55.

The Braves only scored four runs in their first game, but they do have a good offense. Moyer has to especially worry about Brain McCann, who is 8-for-18 (.444) with a homer and a double versus Moyer.

Look for Moyer’s struggles against the Braves to continue and for Jurrjens to have a solid outing, as the Braves will hand the Phillies their second consecutive loss to begin the season.

.A. Dodgers (1-0) at San Diego Padres (0-1) 10:05 PM ET

In terms of MLB odds, online sportsbook has a moneyline with the Padres the favorite at -118 and the Dodgers as the underdog at +108 with a run total Over/Under 7.5.

Taking the mound for the Dodgers is Randy Wolf and for the Padres Chris Young. Yesterday, the Dodgers beat the Padres 4-1 in the opening game for both teams. {URL=}MATCHUP REPORT {/URL}

Young was an All Star in 2007, but missed the last two months of last season. He has to worry about last night’s studs James Loney (3-4 2RBIs), Matt Kemp (HR), Rafael Furcal (2 hits) and Andre Ethier (2 hits).

Even though Manny Ramirez went 0-3 last night, he has four homers and has 10 RBIs in his last six games versus the Padres. He is also 3-for-9 with a HR and four RBIs in his career against Young.

The San Diego offense is a concern this season and they need to start hitting the ball if they are going to contend in the NL West. Look for the offense of the Padres to struggle to score runs, as the Dodgers will win this game and start the season off 2-0.
