AS Roma misses Serie A chance

AS Roma is currently in 6th place in the league, but they could have moved into the 4th position with a win over Inter Milan in Milan last night. That is important, as the top 4 finishers in the Italian league automatically qualify for next season's Champions League.

The match could not have started any better for the visiting Roman team, as they took a 2-0 lead heading into halftime, as Daniele De Rossi and John Arne Riise found the back of the twine.

In the beginning of the 2nd half (51st minute), Inter's Mario Balotelli scored to cut the lead in half and then knotted the game at 2-2, burying a penalty shot in the 63rd minute. Balotelli started for an injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Former goal scoring stud Hernan Crespo was substituted into the game and scored in the 79th minute to give the home team the 3-2 lead, which would stand.

I bet on Inter in this match with odds of 1.90 and have now lost two bets in row on my favorite team, as they drew with both AS Roma yesterday and Manchester United 0-0, with Inter having odds of 2.6, in their Champions League match on Tuesday.

Even though Inter will not have good odds when they travel to play Man U on March 11th I will still lay some green on the club that still has a comfortable seven point lead in Italy Series A.

The only real club that can threaten Inter is Juventus, which narrowly defeated AS Napoli 1-0 on Saturday evening. Juventus is now seven points behind Inter in second place.

AC Milan is, pretty much, out of the picture, as they lost a tough 2-1 away game against Sampdoria yesterday afternoon and are now 12 points behind inter in the league race. The current standings in Italy Series A are Inter (60 points), Juventus (53 points), AC Milan (48 points), Fiorentina (46 points), Genoa (45 points), and Roma (44 points).
