2016 MLS All-Star Game: Arsenal vs MLS All-Stars

Major League Soccer’s best will take on Arsene Wenger’s Gunners tonight in the annual MLS All-Star game in San Jose. Since the league adopted the “All-Stars vs guest” format opposed to the traditional North American “East vs West” format, they have gone 7-4 against international competition.

SHARK BITES
  • Premier League teams have gone 3-5 all-time against MLS All-Star teams.
  • Arsenal will be without Mertesacker, Giroud, Ozil, Ramsey, Koscielny and Sanchez for the match.
  • An English team has not beaten the MLS All-Star team since 2011 when Man U beat them 4-0.

For Premier League teams, this is nothing more than an exhibition tune-up for the regular season. Arsenal will be doing some experimenting with their lineup and will be showcasing some of the new additions to their squad.

The MLS team will feature a number of high profile, world class players including Andrea Pirlo, Didier Drogba, David Villa, Kaka, Clint Dempsey and Sebastian Giovinco. Many of these players have experience playing in the Premier League and there should be some very real rivalries that resurface tonight.

Online sportsbook Sportsbook has Arsenal as the +135 favorite and the All-Stars as the +160 underdogs in moneyline markets. The total has been set at four and when the MLS All-Stars have played English clubs, the total has gone over that number five times in eight games.
