Austria Struggling to Score Goals

Marko Arnautovic Austria Euro 2016

Following an incredibly impressive qualifying campaign that saw them win nine games and draw one, many pegged Austria as a dark horse in Euro 2016. Now, with one game remaining in the group stage, they find themselves in last place in what has been a tricky group. A victory against Iceland could put those poor first two performances behind them and into the Round of 16.

SHARK BITES
  • Austria has three losses, two wins and one draw in their last five.
  • Iceland has two wins, two draws and one loss in their last five.
  • Austria has one win and there have been two draws in three all-time meetings.

Online shop Bovada is currently offering Austria at f+115 in moneyline markets while Iceland is +280 and the Draw is +210. In spread markets, Austria is a 1.5-goal favorite at +115 while Iceland is -140 as underdogs. As far as the total is concerned, OVER 2 goals is currently EVEN while UNDER 2 goals is -120.

This is a massive match for both sides as a three-point haul for either team will result in safe passage to the Round of 16.

Iceland enters Wednesday's contest second in the group with two points while the Austrians come in with just one point after a 0-0 draw with Portugal.

The Austrians just cannot muster any offense and have not scored at all in the tournament and have not scored in their last three overall. They kept the ball just 42 percent of the time against Portugal and were forced to defend for most of the match.

They did luck out getting that point against Portugal after Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty kick late in the game.
