Chelsea Climbing the Table Under Hiddink

Guus Hiddink Chelsea EPL

A disastrous season for Chelsea is becoming slightly more tolerable of late as the club has yet to lose in league play in Guus Hiddink’s regime. The Blues will look to continue their steady ascension up the table with three points versus Newcastle at Stamford Bridge Saturday.

  • The reverse fixture was a 2-2 draw back on September 26.
  • Chelsea’s last four home games in the league have resulted in draws.
  • Newcastle last won away to Chelsea back on May 2, 2012.

Online book Bovada has Chelsea priced at -225 in moneyline markets with Newcastle +575 and the Draw +360. In totals markets, OVER 3 goals is +105 and UNDER 3 goals is -130.

Chelsea had tallied just 15 points in 16 games under Jose Mourinho this season, forcing Roman Abramovic to make a managerial change, sacking “The Special One” and appointing the Dutchman to take over.

Since a 3-1 win versus Sunderland (Hiddink did not manage this contest), Chelsea has recorded 12 points from eight games without defeat (two wins, six draws).

Newcastle has been a wildly inconsistent team this season, often playing attractive football when going forward and calamitous football when defending. The Magpies posted a 1-0 victory versus West Brom last weekend, moving up to 17th in the table with 24 points.

Steve McClaren’s side will be looking to move further away from the relegation zone and should be confident enough after defeating the Baggies to make this an interesting affair. They’ll have to snap their poor run of form away from St. James’ Park, however, as they have just seven points in away matches – second lowest in the league.
