Euro 2012 Quarterfinals Betting Odds
The conclusion of Tuesday night’s action in Group D means that the matchups for the quarterfinals of Euro 2012 is now complete.
June 21st - Czech Republic 5.50 Portugal 1.72 Draw 3.50 at Bovada
Czech Republic lost badly to Russia 4-1 in their first Group A match, but their defense stepped up in their next 2 matches and they won the group. They are the big underdogs in this match facing a Portugal squad that finished 2nd in the dreaded Group of Death. Can the Czech Republic defense shut down Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 2 goals in the last group match? That is the big key for the Czechs. Vaclav Pilar scored 2 goals in group play and he has to key the offense. Portugal is an offensive minded team and Czech Republic must look for the counter attack.
June 22nd - Germany 1.33 Greece 11.00 Draw 5.00 at Bet365
Can Greece pull off another shocker like they did when they won the 2004 Euros? To do so they will have to keep playing solid defense, as they do not have a great offense and captain Giorgos Karagounis, who scored the goal in the Russia match to vault Greece into the quarters, is suspended for this match. Germany took 9 points with 3 wins in group play and star FW Mario Gomez has 3 goals. Philipp Lahm leads the solid German defense and if they can thwart the counter-attack and win the time of possession they should easily win this match.
June 23rd - Spain 1.80 France 5.00 Draw 3.50 at Ladbrokes
Spain came into the 2012 European Championships as the favorites to win, but while they won Group C they did not dominate the group. FW Fernando Torres can’t miss on goal scoring chances like he did in the 1-1 draw against Italy and their great MF featuring Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez have to control the ball. Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema have yet to bust out so far and they will have to play well in this match, but that will be tough since the Spanish defense has played pretty well and G Iker Casillas has been a rock in goal.
June 24th - England 2.80 Italy 2.75 Draw 3.10 at William Hill
Wayne Rooney came back from his suspension to score in England’s last group match and his play in this match will be key. John Terry and Steven Gerrard, who leads all players with 3 assists in the Euro, have played well in group play as has G Joe Hart. Italy only gave up 2 goals in their 3 Group C matches and their defense played great in the 1-1 draw against Spain. Daniele De Rossi and Andrea Pirlo have to play well in the midfield and their offense and Mario Balotelli, who has to keep a cool head, have to play well, which they have not really done so far. Still, Italy is still led by G Gianluigi Buffon and he will be tested by an England squad that comes into the quarters with a lot of momentum.
