In each teams opening Group D match on Sunday night world soccer power Germany takes on Australia. Germany’s odds to win the World Cup dropped a bit after they lost a few players to injuries, especially captain Michael Ballack. However, they looked good in their last two World Cup tune-up matches beating Hungary 3-0 in Hungary and Bosnia & Herzegovina 3-1 at home.

If you want to know how to bet on the World Cup in detail you can CHECK THIS OUT.

Australia’s team is called the Socceroos and they will have a tough time making runs since Germany is great at controlling the time of possession with the solid midfield they have. The Aussies lack much pace in the defense and they will have to use their size in order to stop the German attack.

With Ballack out Phillip Lahm took over as the team’s captain and he will have to be keyed on by the Australian defense. Lahm and striker Miroslav Klose, who won the Golden Boot award in the 2006 World Cup, will be the main scoring threats for Germany.

Bastian Schweinsteiger will take the center-midfielder position for Ballack and he will have to control the pace of the game in the midfield and push forward on offense and help defend the counter-attack.

This is not a good match for Australia, as their offense is not a dynamic one and even if they were they would have trouble against a tough German defense that only gave up five goals in 10 World Cup qualifying matches. Tim Cahill is the main striker for the Socceroos and if he is contained and does not score it will be hard for them to score.

Australian G Mark Schwarzer and central defender Lucas Neill have to play well in this match for the Socceroos to have any chance to pull off the major upset.
