Scoring, OVERS On The Rise At Euro 2016

Euro 2016 did not start with a bang. It started, in fact, with something that is barely more audible than the sound of a striker tying his shoelaces.

And at the end of the qualification round we were looking at the lowest-scoring Euro event since 1992 — 1.92 goals per game and an OVER/UNDER record that worked out to 11-18-7.

It’s been a different story since the Round of 16 started. Scoring has spiked to 2.0 goals per game and the OVER/UNDER went 4-2-2 after the eight games.

The result is we have a rise in totals from the last round and bettors should be aware. After zero totals going higher than 2 at Bovada last round – with two going at 1.5 - the Iceland-France quarterfinal is looking at an O/U of 2.5 while none of the others are lower than 2 goals.

Better teams have led to higher scoring, it would seem, and oddsmakers like the trend to continue.

It’s also worth noting that favorites went 15-10-11 in the group stage and 4-3-1 in the Round of 16. Higher-scoring games seem to favor the underdog at this tourney.
