Victory Moves USA to Next Round

Following a 2-0 loss to Colombia in the opener, the United States Men’s National Team was much better in their second game of the group stage as they throttled Costa Rica by a score of 4-0. Now, they can advance to the next phase of the Copa America with a win over Paraguay Saturday night.

  • Paraguay is winless in its last five matches (three draws, two losses).
  • USA has won four of its last five matches.
  • Despite beating Costa Rica 4-0, USA’s time of possession was just 43 percent.

Online shop Bovada is presently offering USA at +110 in moneyline markets while Paraguay comes in at +245 and the Draw is +240. The shop has this one at a Pick in spread betting with USA -185 and Paraguay at +150. Finally, the total is tabbed at 2.5 with OVER at EVEN and UNDER at -125.

Jermain Jones, Clint Dempsey, Graham Zusi and Bobby Wood all struck for the Americans in the 4-0 win over Costa Rica putting them in a great spot to advance. Paraguay, however, will prove to be stiffer competition than the Costa Ricans were and a win could put them into the next stage.

Paraguay has won the previous two meetings with the USA: 1-0 in a friendly back in 2011 and 3-1 in the Copa back in 2007. They are a tough backline to crack and conceded just two goals in their 2-1 loss to Colombia on Wednesday but struggle to find the back of the net at the other end, evidenced by their one goal.
