Week 27 EPL Betting Preview: Battle to Stay Out of the Bottom

Chelsea continues to be the class of the Premier League but with a heated race for second place and seven teams in danger of being relegated, there’s more than a few good storylines to cover heading into Week 27 of Premiership action.

One of the more compelling matches of the weekend is the battle between Leicester and Hull. Both teams are seeking to get clear of the bottom and the Foxes are coming off a stunning win against Liverpool in their first game without the services of Claudio Ranieri. This is not an exciting game in the traditional sense and I’m not expecting it to be a brilliant 90 minutes of footy but there are multiple interesting betting angles to take a look at and I'll break them down for you.

The first is the game line that has Leicester favored on the moneyline with odds of -125. Coming off their very first win in 2017, the Foxes will look to stay undefeated under caretaker Craig Shakespeare and attempt to prove Ranieri was to blame for the worst title defense in Premier League history. Although I’m not convinced that the Italian manager was entirely at fault, this club is visibly more motivated than it was in the previous weeks and that’s likely to continue for at least a few more games. I like Leicester to get a second consecutive win at the King Power Stadium on Saturday and I'll be backing Jamie Vardy to bag a goal any time at a price of +150.

Who Will Take Over at Leicester?

Secondly, Bovada has odds for who will replace Ranieri as the full-time manager for Leicester and if Craig Shakespeare can keep his team out of relegation during his interim stead, he could have a shot at the permanent job. That said, former England boss Roy Hodgson is the favorite to land the job after he was reportedly approached by the club after the sacking of Ranieri.

Odds as of March 1 at Bovada

  • Roy Hodgson +125
  • Craig Shakespeare +165
  • Guus Hiddink +700
  • Nigel Pearson +900
  • Alan Pardew +1400
  • Roberto Di Matteo +1600

Don't Sleep on the Sleepers

Last but not least, as the battle to stay out of the bottom heats up, so do the matches between the basement-dwellers. Hull is currently at -135 to be relegated so their motivation will be high this weekend as they try to avoid the dreaded one-and-back-down season. The only problem for the Tigers is that they are absolute shite on the road, scoring just six goals away from Hull all season. Leicester likely moves eight points clear of the bottom after this one and betting them to go down will only get more valuable as I see this team going in only one direction with their schedule getting exponentially tougher from here on.
