World Cup - Group H Preview
Spain is the big favorite to win Group H and with good reason, as they are stacked and finally have the “can’t win the big one” monkey off their back after winning the 2008 European Championships.
Spain (-400) has never done very well in the World Cup, as even though have played in it 12 times their best showing was way back in 1950 when they made the quarterfinals.

They had no problem qualifying for South Africa and they have a great squad with the likes of the Barcelona duo of Gerard Piqué and Xavi Hernandez and Fernando Torres of Liverpool. The main strength of the Spanish squad is their offense, which is one of the best in the World Cup field.
Spain’s weaknesses is that they tend to struggle against physical teams and they do not defend set pieces and through balls well. Also, Torres is battling injuries and may miss some time this summer.
Chile (+475) will be making their eighth World Cup appearance, but first sine 1998. They were solid in qualifying and what is good for them is that they won a lot of matches on the road.
Chile’s strength is their offense, as they are an attacking team led by the strikers of Humberto Suazo of Monterrey and 21-year old Alexis Sanchez of Udinese.
Their weakness is on defense, as they are error prone in their backline and they are not a tall team so they have trouble defending set pieces and aerial attacks.
Switzerland (+900) is making their second straight World Cup appearance and seventh overall and they won their European qualifying group. The strength of the Swiss is that they play a great team game. They have a good offense led by Alexander Frei of FC Basel and Tranquillo Barnetta of Bayer Leverkusen and a decent defense anchored by G Diego Benaglio of VFL Wolfsburg.
The Swiss can beat good teams, but one of their main weaknesses is that they play down against teams they should beat and they can’t do that when they face Honduras in Group H.
Honduras (+2000) is the big underdog in Group H and this summer will only be their second appearance in the World Cup and fist since 1982. The main strength of the Honduran squad is their defense and midfield.
They have up the fewest goals in the CONCACAF World Cup qualification process. They have a fast squad and are solid in counter-attacking when they are given the chance. Strikers Carlos Pavon of Real Espana and David Suazo of Inter Milan lead their offense. Even though they have a good defense G Noel Valladares made quite a few mistakes in qualifying, which he cannot do against the great offenses of Spain and Chile.
Honduras is also not a team that wins on the road often.
