World Cup: Honduras Preview
Honduras is the long shot to win Group H and are the lowest ranked team in the group, but they have a good defense and with the solid offenses that the teams in the group have they have a shot to make it to the playoffs, albeit a small one.
Honduras is in Group H with Spain, Chile, and Switzerland.
has Honduras at +50000 to win the World Cup and at +2000 to win Group H.
Honduras is only playing in their second World Cup and their first was in 1982. Qualifying for South America was far from easy, as they needed the USA to beat Costa Rica in the last match and when the Americans scored in the 94th minute it punched Honduras’ ticket to South Africa.
In group play Honduras will be the underdog in every match. Defense is their strength and they will need to really play well, as they play an attacking Chile team and Spain, who may have the best offense in the tournament.

Honduras’ defense is their strong suit with the solid defenders they have. They also have a good midfield and while their offense is only decent they are good at the counter-attack. Since Chile and Spain both attack from the get-go Honduras will have to take advantage of the counter attack when they face those teams in their group.
While their offense is only decent they have a couple strikers in David Suazo of Inter Milan and Carlos Pavon of Real Espana, who the veteran of the team and the all time leading goal scorer for Honduras.
While Honduras does have a good defense there are some concerns in goal. Noel Valladares made a few mistakes in World Cup qualification and he can’t make those kinds of mistakes since two of the three teams in Group H have such great offenses.
There are also not many top-flight players on the squad so there is not a lot of international big match experience.
Honduras plays Chile in the first match and if they lose it will be a major uphill battle to make it out of Group H since they face Spain in their second match.
