Spain Preview | Chile Preview
Chile leads Group H with six points and Spain has three points. Chile will win the group if they win this match or play to a draw. If Spain wins they will win the group if Switzerland does not beat Honduras by two goals or more.
In their last matches Spain beat Honduras 2-0 and Chile beat Switzerland 1-0.
Spain finally showed what they can do in their win over Honduras, as they were dominant on offense and played a very fluid match.
They should have won by a higher score, as they blew a few chances to score and David Villa narrowly missed getting a hat trick after missing a penalty shot in the second half.
Spain also played very good defense in the Honduras match, as of the nine shots that Honduras had none were on target and they never had a solid chance to score.
Chile beat Switzerland 1-0, but they should have scored more, as they also wasted some golden opportunities, which they cannot do against Spain. They played a Swiss team that is not as good as Spain AND Switzerland only played with 10 guys for most of the match after having a player sent off with a red card. Chile was lucky to come away with a win after the Swiss did not score on a point blank shot late in the match.
Chile has to mark the Spanish strikers of David Villa and Fernando Torres and not let these guys get open deep in their part of the field.
Chile MF Alexis Sanchez has to play well and disrupt the Spanish midfield and now allow they to dominate the time of possession.
Spain has to win while Chile only needs a draw and because of that look for Chile to drop back a little more on defense. Spain will not change their game plan, as they will attack from the opening whistle, but they have to be wary of the counter-attack because of that.
The key to this game will be not wasting scoring opportunities, which both teams did in their last group matches.
